English Mastiff x Rottweiler = English Mastweiler

Coming from the lineage of the English Mastiff and the Rottweiler, who are muscular dogs designed to guard people and property, the English Mastweiler are alert dogs who make excellent guard dogs due to their watchful and protective nature.

History

This canine mix breed was said to have been developed by a group of dog enthusiasts in Birmingham with the intention of creating a Molosser breed with a large body-buildup.

They needed it to be better than the English Mastiff in terms of guarding abilities, alertness, agility, and discharging duties assigned by police and military officials.

Hence, the Rottweilers were imported from Germany and were crossed with the English Mastiffs, Bullmastiffs, and Neapolitan Mastiff in the United Kingdom to get the new breed with qualities of both parents.

Appearance

Belonging to the category of a bandogge, this canine breed shows inconsistency as far as its body structure is concerned as it may be tall, heavy and muscular in appearance or even have a short and lean structure.

This breed of dogs is muscular and well-built in size, with a broad head, strong muzzle, and loose sagging skin.

The coat of English Mastweiler is short, fine and flat, with a thick undercoat and may take coloration from their parents. It differs in dark brindle colorings, but also allowed in solid fawn, wheaten, red and brown shades, although some black, black-n-tan, as well as dogs with white markings, can be encountered on occasion.

Temperament and Personality Traits

The English Mastweiler is known to be even-tempered, calm and affectionate dogs and makes good family pets. They are typically used as guard dogs because of their alert and attentive nature.

This canine breed is generally less boisterous than most dogs of their size, due to the nature of the English Mastiff, and they tend to be easy going, laid back and loving towards children.

They are very loyal to their owners and are highly protective of its household and territory, going to any extent to safeguard them, just like their Rottweiler and Mastiff parents.

Though the English Mastweiler does alright in warmer weather but prefers cooler temperatures.

Care: Exercise

The Mastweilers is an active and agile dog and requires a moderate amount of exercise daily for mental and physical fitness.

Daily walks and plenty of play opportunities are necessary for English Mastweiler health.

Grooming 

These dogs have quite simple grooming requirements as this mix dog’s coat is short and manageable.

Although they require regular brushing with a soft bristle brush to control the shedding and distribute their body oil. A bath every month or two is typically adequate for these dogs to keep their ears and eyes clean.

Your pet may inherit the folds or wrinkles commonly seen on English Mastiffs. You should check on a regular basis to ensure that the folds of skin have not trapped any moisture or contaminants as these can cause skin irritation and a foul odor may develop. Cleaning them with a mild wet cloth or wiping them gently will help to keep the hygiene levels.

Health Problems

The Mastweiler has an average life-span of 8-12 years. They are allergic to certain foods like chicken and corn and has a sensitive stomach and digestive system.

This canine breed may suffer from

Training 

These sharp dogs are quick learns and have fast grasping powers. However, in the initial days, they show little resistance for training and may give their owners a tough time.

A patient yet commanding trainer will lead them in a proper direction.

They are quite intelligent and can learn quickly. Socialization and training should be done early puppy days, this may help in developing their personality and help them mingle with other pets and kids.

Feeding/Diet

You can feed them with four and a half to six cups of good quality dry dog food three times a day.

A balance of nutritious and protein-rich food in their daily diet to keep them healthy.

As they often have problems of with the stomach be careful about the kind of food you are providing them.
