The Borgi is a medium-sized cross between two purebred dogs, the Border Collie and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. This resultant designer dog has the desirable traits of both its parent breeds and is a good watchdog, companion and herding dog. Brog is are known as Bordigan, Cardigan Welsh Borgi, Pembroke Welsh Borgi.

Border Collie x Pembroke Welsh Corgi = Borgi

Appearance

The Border Collie Corgi Mix may inherit physical traits from both its parents. They are medium-sized dogs. The average height for the Borgi may range around 10-22 inches and may weigh between 28-40 pounds. They have short and stout legs, erect and pointed ears, a black average-sized muzzle and dark brown eyes and a triangle-shaped face like a fox.

They usually have a double-coat with a thick undercoat and a longer topcoat with medium or short hair. Since both, the parents come in various colors, the offspring Borgi’s coat may be black, white, brown, sable, fawn or a combination of any two colors.

Temperament

The Borgi is a fun, active and playful breed. They are intelligent, hardworking, and alert. These dogs are quite lovable and love to receive attention and may suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for long hours. Though they are energetic, they love their in-between sleeping and nap sessions. They would love not to be disturbed when resting.

Owing to their parent’s lineage they have herding characteristics. They may have a tendency to herd pets, small children. So it’s always advisable not to let very young children be left with them without adult supervision.

Apart from this, they are good family dogs that are well-behaved with children and playful with other pets. Just make sure if there will be children or other pets, they should be properly socialized from early puppy days to make them even-tempered. This dog is great for people who live in apartments who also want a companion dog.

Care – Exercise

Both the Border Collie and the Welsh Corgi are high-energy dogs, so you can expect the Borgi to be a fairly energetic dog as well. Borgi needs lots of physical and mental exercise.

Walking, fetching games and swimming are activities can keep them physically and mentally stimulated. Make sure to channelize their energies as they may tend to be destructive when they get bored. A daily walk and enough playtime are recommended for this active pooch.

Grooming

The Borgi maybe an above-average maintenance dog breed owing to its long and double coat inherited from its parents. Brushing their hair a few times a week is usually enough for this breed to keep their coat free from dirt and debris. However, during the shedding season, daily brushing is required to remove the dead hair.

Shedding: The amount and times Borgi sheds greatly depends on its coat type. They may shed heavily twice a year and an average amount throughout the year or shed their entire coat once a year.

Bathe your dog only when necessary, to keep his natural oils intact which will keep his coat shiny. You should brush your Borgi’s teeth at least three times a week for good dental health. Clipping his nails regularly is recommended.

Health Problems

Being crossbred, Borgis are generally believed to be healthier than their parent breeds. This breed is prone to some serious health conditions and is susceptible to progressive retinal atrophy, epilepsy, and hip dysplasia.

You should regularly clean and check their erect ears, for infections and allergies. Then there is the minor risk of skin complaints and allergies.

It is advisable to buy your dog from a trustworthy breeder who can provide passed health evaluations for the parent dogs as this can help reduce the risk they may occur in the puppy.

Training

These dogs are smart, agile and are easily trainable as they are good in picking up commands. Exposing the dog to new animals, people, and situations from a young age will help them socialize well, and adapt to situations.

Positive Reinforcement: Training and handling your pooch with love, encouragement and a positive attitude is the best way to handle them and remove their stubbornness. This will make you his friend and he will obey you happily.

Obedience Training: Giving basic obedience training to your dog from a young age is the responsibility of the pet parent. Teaching your dog to reliably respond to basic commands such as “sit,” “down,” “come,” and “stay,” will make your furry friend an even-tempered one.

Socialization: The first step is to socialize your dog with your family and friends. This is best done with patience and helps your pooch come out of his shyness. Taking your dog to dog parks and watching other pets will make him well-behaved with kids and other animals.

Feeding/Diet

The Borgi a high-energy dog who needs high nutrition and good quality of dog food. You can feed him 2.5-3 cups of dry dog food split into 2-3 meals. Make sure your dog doesn’t overeat, as obesity can be a real problem with them. Consult a veteran for supplement and vitamins which are necessary to keep your dog healthy.

Temperament & Behaviour

The Pembroke Sheltie makes excellent pets and family dogs. They are loving, lively, loyal, intelligent, protective and courageous canines by nature making it a great choice for first time pet owners.

Adequate socialization and training from puppy days will make them easy going with kids and other pets in the family.

They are not perfect watchdogs or guard dog as it does not bark at strangers and warn its master of an intruder. However, they are very loyal to their owners and never hesitate to protect them in a difficult situation. Owing to its herding instincts from both its parents, the Pembroke Sheltie tends to chase people and cars.

Care ~ Exercise

These active canines need a lot of exercise to stay happy and healthy. Your pet will love going on long walks, jogs, and playing in the dog park or the fenced back yard and those interactive games of Frisbee and fetch. ‘

Their medium size makes them suitable for condo or apartment style living, provided they get 1-2 hours of exercise time on a daily basis.

Grooming

The Sheltie Corgi Mix dogs are minimal shedders and are a low maintenance breed. They are not hypoallergenic dogs.

They have medium-long double coat. Brush them at least a couple of times every week to assure a healthy and bright coat hair and bathing them only when required to protect the natural oils in her coat.

You can also take help from your professional groomer in their shedding season. You should check her ears at least once a week, cleaning them as needed with a cotton ball and approved canine-ear wash solution.

This canines does not possess drooling and bad odor traits. Clipping their toenails when grown and brushing their teeth twice a week will avoid tartar development and tooth decay.

Health Problems

The Shelitie Corgi mix breeds are generally healthy with an average life-span of 12-15 years.

Like other crossbreds it may inherits few health issues from its parents;

Deafness

Dermatomyositis

Von Willebrand’s Disease

Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)

Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA)

Training

The Pembroke Sheltie is an extremely smart dog with higher than average intelligence owing to their parent’s genes. They are highly trainable dogs, easy-to-train and eager to learn and please their owners.

Obedience: To keep his herding traits in check, acquaint him more with different commands like “Stop” or “Pause” and more. This will make him obey your commands from the pup days.

Leash: It requires leash training from puppy hood to keep its herding and chasing instincts under control.

Positive Reinforcement: Early socialization of the pup new people, kids and other pets will allow the dog to become friendlier. Positive training methods like treats, hugs, praises, and snacks will motivate your pet Corgi mix to learn faster.

Feeding/Diet

Their diet should be like any another dog of its size and energy level. Dry Dog food with balanced nutrition for medium sized dogs 2-2.5 cups is advised. Meals should be divided into two for better digestion.

Belgian Malinois is originally a herding dog breed, which is a widely popular dog in Europe and the US. The Malinois is extensively used in protection and law enforcement for crime and police tasks like detecting odors of explosives, drugs, tracking criminals, in search works and rescue missions etc. They are highly sought after as police and military K-9s.

History

The Belgian Malinois canine breed is one of the varieties of the Belgian shepherd. All are named for Belgian villages: Groenendael, Laekenois, Mechelar (Malinois) and Tervuren. These dogs originated in the 1800s in Belgium and mainly served the purpose of sheepdogs.

Today the Malinois is popular military and a police dog and can be a good family companion in the right home. He ranks 76th among the breeds registered by the AKC.

Appearance

A strong, well-built dog, the Belgian Malinois is squarely built, standing 22 to 26 inches. These medium-large sized dogs have a well-proportioned and elegant body.

They have a short and straight coat, hard enough to be weather resistant, with a dense undercoat. Its coat may be fawn, red and mahogany—with or without black tips.

It has a powerful, flat-topped head with a sharp muzzle, black nose <g class="gr_ gr_13 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="13" data-gr-id="13">and</g> triangle-shaped straight up ears. Its dark brown eyes have an alert expression. It has a thick neck, level back and a low-hanging tail.

Shedding: Belgian Malinois is a moderate shedder. However, it sheds heavily only twice every year.

Temperament & Behavior

The Belgian Malinois is intelligent and easily trainable breed. They are a loyal, obedient, committed, friendly and affectionate friend. These active canines are highly energetic and terrific at search and rescue, agility, and pretty much anything else you can train him.

They are good with children and would socialize well if taught from <g class="gr_ gr_10 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" id="10" data-gr-id="10">puppy hood</g> days. These dogs need extensive socialization from puppy days, and firm, but not harsh, training. It truly thrives on love, and affection, and tasks.

Owing to their territorial traits and herding behavior like chasing,
circling, are often seen in them. Owing to their aggressive and preying characteristics, Malinois are not recommended for first-time dog owners with little or no experience. They prefer cool climates but adapt well to warmer environments.

Care ~ Exercise

These working dogs are very energetic and need plenty of exercises, long walk, jogs, and outdoor activities for them to be mentally and physically stimulated and fit.

Malinois make a great running, hiking, and biking companion, and they excel at agility, herding, and tracking making outstanding working dogs.

These dogs enjoy many games and are huge fans Frisbee and fetch games and are happy to develop a closer bond with their owner<g class="gr_ gr_8 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style replaceWithoutSep" id="8" data-gr-id="8">.</g>

Grooming

The Malinois is a moderate maintenance dog. The short, smooth, and waterproof coat of the Malinois are easy to groom and take care of. Brushing occasionally with a medium-bristle brush will keep the dog looking his best, distributes skin oils throughout the coat and promote new hair growth too. Since they shed twice a year, during that time brush him daily with a slicker brush will help to remove the loose and tangled hair.

Like other grooming regimes, trim the nails as needed, usually every few weeks. Brush the teeth frequently for high overall health and fresh breath. Bathe him only when needed.

Health Problems

The Belgian Malinois is generally healthy and hardy dogs with a lifespan of 12-14 years. But like all breeds, they’re prone to certain health conditions. These purebred dogs may suffer from minor physical or mental problems including hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, eye problems, skin allergies, excessive aggressiveness, etc.

These canines are sensitive to anesthesia. Gather health history of the puppies’ parents from their breeders.

Recommended Health Tests from the National Breed Club

Elbow Evaluation

Hip Evaluation

Ophthalmologist Evaluation

Training

The Belgian Malinois is a highly intelligent and trainable breed. However, they may be stubborn at times and need a confident owner who can command and lead him.

These dogs are hyperactive when training them, and you need to spend a lot of time outdoors as they require a lot of physical and mental stimulation.

Positive reinforcement mixed with affirmative obedience training is the perfect blend for a well-trained Belgian Malinois.

Early socialization from puppy days and obedience training are a must since their adulthood behavior & temperament depends on how good the puppy was trained.

Feeding/Diet

These dogs are highly active and do well on high-quality dog food which is rich in nutrients whether commercial or homemade.

You can work out a diet under the veteran’s guidance which is appropriate for the dog’s age and size (puppy, adult, or full-grown).

The recommended daily amount for a Belgian Malinois is 2-3 cups of high-quality dry food per day, given in 2-3 portions in a day. They are meat dogs and love to eat plenty of meat, and hence, a bone per week or an oxtail suit should suffice their craving.

Do note, they have fast metabolisms, so they may often require more than expected feed. They have a tendency to gain weight, so watch the calories intake for your pooch and do not go overboard with the treats.

Clean, fresh drinking water should be available at all times.

Appearance

A full-grown Aussiepoodle range in size from somewhere between 20 to70 pounds depending on if they are a toy, mini or standard dogs. The quality of the coat also differs even between puppies within a litter.

Most of these dogs have soft and curly hair which they inherit from the tight curls of the poodles and the straight hair of the shepherds, their parents that are to say. They are mostly blue-eyed.

The torso of an Aussiedoodle can be broad with sturdy backs, while the smaller and cute puppies are lightly built though not “touch me not” types. An interesting part of breeding these puppies is that they do not have any rigid breed standard.

So unique dogs within the same breed are very much possible. There is a great range of variations in the same breed.

Temperament and Behavior

Aussiedoodles are miniature bundles of joy, very emotional, very friendly, very lovable and very sensitive. They are extremely intelligent as their parents and hence are endowed with work hard play hard strategies.

In fact, they are one of the most intelligent breeds ( or hybrid if you can say so) that the new world is witnessing.

You should not be surprised if your Aussiedoodle carries a gift for you. They are also good at teasing their fellow dogs, they show their toys to attract attention and then run away.

One of their favorite game is chasing! They are extremely agile and bouncy. They are like those break dancers who will keep you wondering whether they have bones or not. They are extremely loyal and they want to be a part of the family.

They meet and make friends instantly because they have separation anxiety. No wonder they are attention seekers. They want you to kiss them and snuggle them and pamper them. They can sneak into your bed at night and sleep near your head just to feel the warmth of human affection and avoid being lonely.

Keeping them outside the house or in kennels is literally a crime because they are hurt and very soon lose their temperance and emotional balance tending to be outcasts. It damages their Intelligence and well being, not to mention their health.

Aussiedoodles are a highly active breed because both their parents are water retrievers and famous herders. They like learning new tricks and tasks and remaining busy.

They are also called Therapy Dogs and help in recovery from traumatic experiences of life. They are emotional support dogs who are gentle with other people and animals and can reciprocate the need to be loved.

Miniature Aussiedoodle

The Miniature Aussiedoodle combines the hypo-allergenic Miniature Poodle with the Miniature Australian Shepherd. It brings the hypoallergenic properties of the Miniature Poodle together with the playful nature of the Miniature Australian Shepherd for an active, low-shedding dog that is great with kids and other animals.

Exercise

An hourly walk or jog will often do splendidly as these dogs love following their human companions wherever they go.

They like to be given tasks. These are busy little dogs. Learning new tricks can be a good holistic exercise to keep both mind and body engaged.

They simply adore swimming. What can be a better exercise where a beach or a pool becomes a favorite gym for the Aussiedoodle?

They also like helping with daily chores and are a great company in the kitchen or gardening.

You don’t require rigorous training for this playful breed. They just need to exhaust their energy as they are supercharged and require to remain healthy and lean.

They need a good walk or active playtime every single day. They can participate in dog sports as agility, flyball, obedience, and rally.

Grooming

Poodles are hypoallergenic dogs. The Australian shepherds have a smooth, dual coat of hair. As a result, Aussiedoodle hair is soft, though they generally don’t shed very much. They can be groomed in various ways depending on the owner’s humor.

Nevertheless, grooming an Aussiedoodle depends on how curly its coat is. Dogs that have a wavier coat often only require combing once or twice a week, whereas dogs with a curlier coat need to be groomed more often.

Their coats can be shaggy and fluffy. So regular brushing is mandatory. They can be given a good haircut for a great summer fashion. They are not low-maintenance dogs when it comes to hairstyles.

Other needs include brushing teeth at least two to three times a week, cleaning of ears once a week and checking for infection and clipping the nails at certain intervals.

Many images on Pinterest and Instagram of these miniature stylists are an interesting mix and match of colors, hairstyle, and dresses!!

Health Problems

Hybrid is often expected to be a healthy offspring of its parents but genetics do not act in the same manner as per expectation.

Aussiedoodles may develop health conditions common to both Australian Shepherds and Poodles if the breeder is not very authentic and ethical. They include

Hip Dysplasia

Cataracts

Progressive retinal atrophy

Epilepsy

Autoimmune thyroiditis and

A skin disease called sebaceous dysplasia

Collie’s nose

Patellar Luxation

Most toy breeds suffer from dental problems as well. A regular visit to the vet is a must to keep them healthy and increase their longevity.

Training

The ideal time to socialize and shape the puppy’s personality is about 3 weeks to 14 weeks old. After 14 weeks, it becomes difficult to socialize and shape the behavior.

The training of such dogs is a combination of both corrective action and positive reinforcement. The pack leader” theory, which leads the dog to believe that the trainer is in charge creates a submissive and well-behaved dog, rather than a naughty dog who jumps on the counter and helps themselves to your sandwich.

They must be trained to socialize or they might suffer from aggression, a trait common to both poodles and Australian shepherds.

Diet & Feeding

Aussiedoodles are extremely high energy dogs and require a balanced diet in order to stay strong and healthy. Like all dogs, Aussiedoodles need varied nutrients including a specific diet full of protein, fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.

On an average, Aussiedoodles should eat two meals per day.

It’s very important to change the dog’s food now and then for optimal nutrition and to prevent allergies

You can add a vitamin supplement to the Aussiedoodle’s diet.

The Blue Lacy is a medium-sized, purebred dog which is a working breed that originated in Texas, the US in the mid 19th Century.

This dog breed is very active and intelligent and highly adept at herding, treeing and hunting activities and track games.

There are three permissible color varieties for this breed.

Blues are any shade of gray from light silver to dark charcoal.

Reds range from light cream to rust.

The tri combines these colors with a blue base and distinct red markings as appropriate for trim.

White can appear on the chest, stomach, and paws. It has a muscular body stature, long narrow head, expressive eyes, and an elegant appearance.

History & Origin of Blue Lacy Dogs

The Blue Lacy breed gets its name from Frank, George, Ewin, and Harry Lacy, who were brothers that moved from Kentucky to Texas in the mid-1800s.

They needed an all-around working dog that could help herd free-roaming hogs and cattle, track and tree small game, hunt wild deer and hogs, and watch over the homestead.

The dog needed to be fast, hardworking, trainable, and able to withstand the Texas weather.

Over time, the Lacy brothers refined the breed and developed a high-energy dog that is happiest when it has a job, whether it’s herding cattle or hogs or following a scent trail.

They worked to develop the breed’s natural herding instincts to drive their livestock to market. Since then, the Blue Lacy has remained a true Texas breed and is uncommon outside of the state.

In 2005, it was designated as Texas’s official state dog breed.

The Blue Lacy remains unrecognized by major kennel clubs, though the ABLA (American Blue Lacy Association) has appealed to the AKC to include it in its Foundation Stock Service.

The Appearance and Color of Blue Lacy Dogs

The American Blue Lacy is medium sized, of noble bearing with hard, clean-cut lines, graceful, well balanced, very fast with free easy movement and alert expression.

The whole appearance of this breed should give an impression of grace and symmetry and of great speed and endurance.

The American Blue Lacy’s expression should be dignified and gentle with deep, faithful, far-seeing eyes

This breed comes in three distinct color variations, blue, red and tricolor. The Blue Lacy comes in shades of gray ranging from a silvery metal tinge to a dark charcoal shade.

The ones in red have a coat that may be light cream or rust colored. The tricolored ones are blue in color with markings of red on their eyes, muzzle, tail, and legs.

Their bright, expressive eyes are orange or yellow. The red and tricolored dogs are also called Blue Lacy because of the blue gene inherent in them.

Temperament and Personality

The Blue Lacy is an alert, intelligent, loyal and a great companion dog. While he’s working, the Lacy is a focused and driven dog, but in the home, he tends to be calm and sweet.

Lacys are generally amazing watchdogs. They are naturally territorial in nature and will protect their property and people from strangers.

Though they share a good rapport with children, the younger ones should be taught to interact with them in a decent way.

Keeping their chasing and herding instincts in mind, it is advisable not to keep them in the same household with smaller pet animals.

Care

Exercise

These active and energetic dogs need their daily dose of exercise in the form of a long walk as well as sufficient play time when not employed on farms or ranches.

They would be comfortable to live on ranches and farms rather than confined spaces or closed apartments lifestyle.

If improperly exercised, they are likely to become bored and hyper as lack of physical activity makes them destructive.

Grooming

The Lacy has a short, smooth coat with little or no undercoat. Brush or comb him weekly to remove dead hair and distribute skin oils and bathe as needed. The coat sheds seasonally.

Health Problems

Blue Lacy, a healthy and hardy breed is not known to suffer from severe health issues apart from food allergies and skin problems.

They are also reported to be afflicted with a rare condition, color dilution alopecia, where its coat has patches.

They have a lifespan of 12-16 years. Many owners of this breed have reported that their Blue Lacy is still hunting and working with cattle at the age of 16.

Training

Like most stock dogs, The Texas Blue Dog may be wary of strangers, so it’s important to socialize him when he’s young.

Blue Lacys are very intelligent and respond well to training, but they need an assertive trainer who can lay down the law without being overly punitive.

Training is a must for this canine breed and socialization must begin early to overcome their natural prey drive and territorial nature

This early exposure will help him learn to be confident in unusual surroundings and hopefully inhibit his instinct to be fearful or even to bite when he encounters unfamiliar situations or people.

He should meet new people and other animals and experience a number of different situations and places to adapt themselves.

Feeding & Diet

The diet for the Blue Lacys should be formulated for a mid-sized breed with high energy and intense exercise requirements.

Owing to their high energetic form, these dogs need a balanced and nutritious diet of a high-quality dry dog food along with a sufficient amount of vitamins and protein.

Their dietary needs will change as they grow from puppyhood to adulthood and senior age. Stay on top of these nutritional requirements.

You should consult your veterinarian for advice on what to feed your Blue Lacy and the correct portion sizes.
