The Poshie is a cute cross between the Pomeranian and the Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) dog breeds. These small-sized wonderful dogs are known for their zealous disposition and are great lap dogs.

They are considered a Designer Dog and likely originated in the U.S. in the 1980s when breeders first began crossing pure-bred dogs in order to create smaller, hypo-allergenic or gentler variations of some of the more popular breeds.

Pomeranian X Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) = Poshie

Appearance

The Poshie is a small to medium sized dog who brings together the outgoing personality of the Pomeranian and the playful character of the Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog). A full-grown Poshie may grow up to 7-16inches and weight 5-25 lbs.

They have an adorable face with a well-shaped body covered with a thick double fluffy coat just like the Pom. The Poshie has small black eyes and a long muzzle ending in a dark nose and a curled tail all of which compliments to its beautiful personality.

The double coat is long, dense, and sheds seasonally twice a year. The color of their coat may vary from brown, black, sable, tan, sable, red, fawn, cream, brindle or a combination of any two.

Temperament

These dogs have an adorable personality and are cute, loving and affectionate towards the family, making a great companion and lap dogs. Pochies are energetic, enthusiastic and get the herding gene from their parents, making them suitable for a rural and urban lifestyle. This breed is intelligent, sharp and gifted with an alert mind, thus make expert guard dogs who raise an alarm or bark if he spots a stranger around the house.

Their playful nature and loving eyes will always catch your attention. They are good with kids and other pets in the family and are excellent companions to them. They love to cuddle and play and are very loyal to their families. Owing to their Pomeranian side they may be a little temperamental at times, but proper training and socialization from a young age will sort this out.

Care ~ Exercise

The Porchie is a high-energy canine breed and needs a lot of exercise and activities to burn his energy and keep him mentally and physically stimulated. If we dog does not exercise well, then they tend to be bored, which at times leads to destructive behavior including barking tendencies, chewing household items or breaking things.

A 30-40 minute walk or jog in the park or fenced yard will keep him physically fit. These pooches love to play and activities like, Frisbee, hide and seek, dead dog or fetch play will keep them happy. Since these dogs have a tendency to herd, its best to keep them leashed when out to have control on them.

Grooming

The Sheltie Pomeranian Mix has a long-haired coat which shed twice a year. Brush them 3-4 times a week to keep their hair shiny and natural oils well distributed. They have a silky coat which needs to be combed regularly to keep them tangle free, neat, and avoid matting of the fur.

Bathing them once in two months is fine to keep their fur dirt free and clean. Apart from this, regular grooming requirements including, trimming of the nails, brushing their teeth regularly and cleaning their ears to avoid wax build-up and free from infection is recommended.

Health Problems

This crossbreed is a fairly healthy dog with an average life-span of 12-16 years. Like all other cross breeds, they may suffer from diseases which their parents, the Pomeranian and the Sheltie were prone to. Some of the common diseases they are prone to are;

Patellar luxation

Cataracts

Entropion

Hip dysplasia

Be sure to get its proper vaccination before you get it from a trusted breeder. Regular visits to the Vet for its tests and a healthy diet is recommended.

Training

The Poshie is intelligent dog breeds and is quick learners who are easy to train. They have strong herding instincts due to their parent’s lineage and will require early training and socialization to break their preying and hunting habits.

Positive Reinforcement: Taking a positive and fun, rewards-based approach is the best way to encourage your dog. Lots of verbal encouragement and treats of your choice to get the best results from them.

Obedience Training: Obedience training always comes prior to socialization training, especially to herding dogs. Since herding dogs have a natural instinct to hunt other animals, it is important to train them the basic obedience commands like ‘freeze’, ‘back’, ‘halt’. ‘stop’, and etc. to keep them even-tempered and well-rounded dogs.

Socialization: Taking your young puppies to parks to play and meet other people and animals will make them comfortable with strangers and help them come out of their shyness.

Feeding/Diet

As they are a high energy breed, Poshies need a quality dry kibble diet according to the dog ‘s age and weight. A protein and the high carb-rich food is best for this breed.

Choose a nutrient-rich balanced diet without a lot of fillers (carbs) that will cause him to over-eat to feel full. Always keep his weight in check so that they don’t overeat and gain weight. Gaining excess weight may result in joint pain later in life.

Temperament

The Pomchi is a good-natured dog, blessed with a devoted personality and are very loyal to their families. The Pomchis temperament will be a mixture of the behavioural characteristics of its parent’s breed, the Pomeranian and the Chihuahua.

They may act stubborn and disobey the rules and try to rule the house. These dogs enjoy the attention of the family and love to cuddle and be with them.

Owing to their small size they may be very vocal and suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for long duration.

These little powerhouses are alert and loyal dogs and make great watchdogs, alerting everyone in the house when a stranger is on their turf.

Pomchis make great companions and family pets because of their kind and loving natures. However, they are best suited to families with older children who know how to behave around dogs. Any interaction of small kids with these dogs should always be supervised by an adult.

Care ~ Exercise

The Pomeranian Chihuahua Mix is an active, high energy, intelligent little dog. A daily exercise of 30 minutes and mental stimulation activity will make them truly happy and mentally and physically stimulated.

The Pomchi loves to play games and will respond well to tasks which tests their inquisitive nature.

A short walk or playtime in near by parks will develop well-rounded dogs. When outdoors be sure to keep them away from larger animals and dogs.

Grooming

Pomchis are moderate maintenance dogs. They may have long or dense hair and are average shedders. Pomchis with short hair won’t need as much brushing, but they shouldn’t be neglected.

Your pet will require brushing multiple times per week. Combing and brushing with a soft bristle regularly will be essential in order to make sure the dog’s hair does not become matted. You may visit a professional groomer with your pet to get the coat trimmed to keep it beautiful and shiny.

It’s also important to check a dog’s ears on a regular basis and to clean them when necessary. to avoid any wax build up and infection. Bathe with a mild dog shampoo them only when they are dirty.

Trim their nails when required and brush their teeth regularly to keep them clean and healthy.

Health Problems

Being a cross bred, the Pomchis should be slightly healthier than their purebred parents, the Chihuahuas and Pomeranians. They have a average lifespan of 10-18 years.

However these dogs may suffer from some genetically transmitted diseases like;

Patellar Luxation

Epilepsy

Hypoglycemia

Cataract

Legg-Calve Perthes Disease

A regular visit to the vet for check-up will keep the dog healthy. Before getting your pooch to your place take the papers from its breeder to keep a tab on its health problems.

Training

The Pomchi is an intelligent little dog who learns quickly. They are easy to train if they don’t behave stubborn. They respond best to kind but firm instructions, as long as it is fun, they will be great learners.

Obidience Training: Teach your pup to follow basic commands and make them even-tempered.

Socialization: Pomchis are toy dogs and require early and extensive socialization, from their puppy days to adulthood. Regular playtime outdoors will get them used to interact properly with kids, pets and other strangers.

Potty Training is a must for your pet and teach them to use the bathroom both inside and outside.

Feeding/Diet

Though small in size, these active dogs have a big appetite. You should feed your pooch with lot of lean animal protein, like lean meats, including lean hamburger, meat, fish and white breast chicken.

For starch, supply them with rice, and pasta. All this should be in a proper ratio – 40% meat, 30% vegetables and 30% starch approx

Once fully mature, a full-grown Pomchi must be fed a high quality diet to ensure their continued good health.

The Pembroke Sheltie is a medium-sized breed developed by crossing the Pembroke Welsh Corgi with the Shetland Sheepdog. They are also known as Shelti Corgi or Corgi Shelti.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi X Shetland Sheepdog = Pembroke Sheltie

This hybrid will make an amazing family pet & companion dogs. They have the traits of both their parents, the tenderness and mellowness of the Sheltie (Sheetland Sheepdog) and the regal attitude of the British Corgi.

Appearance (How do they Look?)

The Corgi Sheltie mix is a medium sized dog breed and can inherit the appearance characteristics of one or both parent breeds. Your Pembroke Sheltie will stand about 12 to 15 inches tall and weigh 14 to 30 pounds when fully grown adult.

They have a dark muzzle with a black nose tip while the eyes are almond-shaped. They have a pair of hanging or erect ears and bushy tail with short, straight legs.

The length of the coat may vary from medium to long, which is straight, smooth, soft and double coated. The colors of the coat can be brown, red, sable and white or a combination of any two.

Temperament & Behaviour

The Pembroke Sheltie makes excellent pets and family dogs. They are loving, lively, loyal, intelligent, protective and courageous canines by nature making it a great choice for first time pet owners.

Adequate socialization and training from puppy days will make them easy going with kids and other pets in the family.

They are not perfect watchdogs or guard dog as it does not bark at strangers and warn its master of an intruder. However, they are very loyal to their owners and never hesitate to protect them in a difficult situation. Owing to its herding instincts from both its parents, the Pembroke Sheltie tends to chase people and cars.

Care ~ Exercise

These active canines need a lot of exercise to stay happy and healthy. Your pet will love going on long walks, jogs, and playing in the dog park or the fenced back yard and those interactive games of Frisbee and fetch. ‘

Their medium size makes them suitable for condo or apartment style living, provided they get 1-2 hours of exercise time on a daily basis.

Grooming

The Sheltie Corgi Mix dogs are minimal shedders and are a low maintenance breed. They are not hypoallergenic dogs.

They have medium-long double coat. Brush them at least a couple of times every week to assure a healthy and bright coat hair and bathing them only when required to protect the natural oils in her coat.

You can also take help from your professional groomer in their shedding season. You should check her ears at least once a week, cleaning them as needed with a cotton ball and approved canine-ear wash solution.

This canines does not possess drooling and bad odor traits. Clipping their toenails when grown and brushing their teeth twice a week will avoid tartar development and tooth decay.

Health Problems

The Shelitie Corgi mix breeds are generally healthy with an average life-span of 12-15 years.

Like other crossbreds it may inherits few health issues from its parents;

Deafness

Dermatomyositis

Von Willebrand’s Disease

Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)

Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA)

Training

The Pembroke Sheltie is an extremely smart dog with higher than average intelligence owing to their parent’s genes. They are highly trainable dogs, easy-to-train and eager to learn and please their owners.

Obedience: To keep his herding traits in check, acquaint him more with different commands like “Stop” or “Pause” and more. This will make him obey your commands from the pup days.

Leash: It requires leash training from puppy hood to keep its herding and chasing instincts under control.

Positive Reinforcement: Early socialization of the pup new people, kids and other pets will allow the dog to become friendlier. Positive training methods like treats, hugs, praises, and snacks will motivate your pet Corgi mix to learn faster.

Feeding/Diet

Their diet should be like any another dog of its size and energy level. Dry Dog food with balanced nutrition for medium sized dogs 2-2.5 cups is advised. Meals should be divided into two for better digestion.

The Pungsan or the Poongsan dog is a medium to large-sized spitz-type Hybrid Dog, that originates from the harsh mountainous regions of Korea and is now considered to be one of the National Treasures of Korea.

These rare breed of hunter dogs were named after the mountainous region of Pungsan (present-day Kimhyǒnggwǒn), the place where they were originally bred.

History

The Pungsan dog is also known as the ‘Poongsan dog’ and is one of only three dog breeds native to Korea (the others breeds are the Sapsali and the Korean Jindo). The Pungsan is the rarest of the three and is practically a rare breed internationally.

The origin and records of the Poongsan dogs are absent and their heritage is speculated to date back to the Joseon Dynasty, which lasted from 1392 until 1897.

Many people claim that the Pungsans was ultimately the result of dogs mating with wolves in the area which is credited for their hunting ability, cleverness, and their aggressive natures. Some stories even refer to a Pungsan dog who defeated a Siberian Tiger in battle.

Developed in the harsh environment of northern Korea, the Pungsans can work in cold weather. The Pungsan dog is not currently recognised by any major kennel clubs.

Appearance

The Pungsan has the characteristics typical of a Spitz breed; a plush double coat, wedge-shaped face, prick ears and a tail that curls over their back. They sport dark brown almond-shaped eyes that are alert.

Their sturdy bodies are strong and well-muscled, allowing for agile movement and great stamina. They are slightly longer than their height giving them an agile and rectangular shape with a broad and deep chest. Their limbs are straight while their paws are well-rounded.

Their abundant, thick coat is well designed to handle the harsh weather of the Korean mountains and comes in white and off-white shades.

Temperament & Personality

These dogs are known to be protective and very loyal canines when it comes to their owners and their property. They are strong, agile, intelligent, affectionate and independent pooches.

A loving pooch for the family who thrives on strong human bond, the Pungsan is a family companion that loves its people and participates in the household chores.

Owing to their high prey drive instincts, the Pungsan dog makes it a poor fit for households with mixed pets, as they may tend to be aggressive with small pets like cats, rabbits, etc. With early socialization, it can learn to be gentle with other animals and pets and co-exist with them.

While they do have strong territorial instincts, they are not prone to barking unless it is truly needed, making them excellent guard dogs and watchdogs.

This breed is not recommended for the first time owners and requires a dominant and strong owner to be the leader.

Care ~ Excercise

Being an active breed it requires an hour of rigorous exercise schedules with proper mental stimulation daily to stay healthy and fit.

Pungsan will love to go for long, brisk walks on a leash, as well as runs and jogs beside you while you ride a cycle or bike.

The improper workout schedules make them restless and might even develop destructive activities like barking & chewing, etc to combat boredom.

Grooming

Pungsan dogs require frequent brushing to clean their dead furs as they are heavy shedders. 2-3 times brushing a week will suffice its cleaning requirements. However, during their shedding season, they may require brushing and cleaning twice a day.

Clip the nails on a monthly basis and the teeth, which should be cleaned a few times per week. Bathing is necessary only when it gets dirty or has a bad odor. Their ears may be prone to infections due to water, dirt buildup and need regular checking to prevent infections and pain.

Health Problems

The Pungsan dog is a healthy breed with less genetic and health issues. However, it may suffer from some health problems namely;

Bloating

Gastric Dilation Volvulus (GDV)

Hip and Elbow Dysplasia

It is advisable to visit the vet occasionally to minimize the risk.

Training

Pungsan puppies are intelligent canines and can take up commands quickly if they desire. But, owing to their stubborn nature at times, they can be difficult to train. They need a dominating and consistent trainer who can lead him with authority.

Socialization: It means training your puppy or adult dog to accept new people, animals, by visiting various new places like dog parks, walks and more. By exposing him to these things and situations, your pet will adapt well to new surroundings and come over it fears and phobias. Well, socialized dogs are less likely to develop behavior problems and are generally more welcomed by others.

Obedience & Leash Training: Leash training is crucial to minimize its preying and chasing instincts. Start from an early age to make it familiar with the leash. When it plays or during its meal time apply the leash and take a short walk around the room or the garden and when it ultimately gets familiar take them out.

Try to end training on a positive note and reward your pet with treats for a good training session. This keeps training fun for you and your pet. Next time, your dog will be excited when it is time to practice!

Diet/Feeding

These hardy dogs need high-quality food or homemade food that is nutritious and rich in fat, carbohydrates, and protein. You can offer them 2-2.5 of dry kibbles depending on his age and size to meet their energy requirements.

They are prone to obesity and bloating, and it is essential to visit a vet before opting for a fatty diet. Try to offer them small meals multiple times a day and prevent heavy exercises to minimize the risk of obesity.

The Pom-Shi is a crossbred between the Pomeranian and the Shiba Inu. This mix is most commonly referred to as a “Shi Pom” – and sometimes “Pom Shi.”

Pomeranian X Shiba Inu = Pom Shi

This unique combination of the <g class="gr_ gr_21 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="21" data-gr-id="21">parents</g> breeds results in a canine mix that’s friendly, intelligent, and lively- a great companion for active singles or families.

Appearance

A Shi Pom is a small doggy that has a maximum weight between 12 -14 lbs and a height of 9 – 15 inches. They have small feet, dark almond eyes, a small narrow muzzle with a black nose. The Shiba Inu Pomeranian Mix is quite agile, her gait very cat-like and regal in movement with her short fluffy tail curling over her back.

The Shi-Pom’s coat is thick and cottony. However, that will shed and reveal a soft, thick coat that is very plush, with a more rough line of fur down the spine. The most common color of Shi Pom coats is tan, white, black, or a combination of these.

Temperament & Behavior

Pom-Shi is a mix of the Pomeranian and the Shiba Inu and can inherit the temperament qualities of either or both parent breeds. These designer dogs have a wonderful personality and bring an unusual combination of traits that you’re bound to love.

Pom-Shi dogs are sweet, playful, energetic, lively, affectionate, and loves cuddling with their owners/rescuers. She gets intelligence and independence from both sides of the bio mix and, while this makes her a great family dog, and at times they can be moderately difficult to train.

However, the Shi-Pom can be a yappy little dog that tends to bark at intruders or sometimes guests. They like to bark at anything unusual. These traits make them good <g class="gr_ gr_182 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" id="182" data-gr-id="182">watch dogs</g> or guard dogs for the family.

These dogs have moderate energy levels which will need to be managed to keep her healthy, fit and happy. You should still make sure to properly socialize them from an early age and promote self-sufficiency to avoid any behavioral issues down the road.

Care ~ Exercise

Your Pom-Shi hybrid is a lively little pooch with a moderate amount of energy. She will love going for daily walks, daily romps, and playtime in the dog park or in the fenced in back yard.

Playing interactive games of fetch, Frisbee and hide and seek with her toys inside or outside the house will keep them from boredom. On average, 30 to 45 minutes of daily exercise will keep your pet healthy and happy.

However, you should never let the Pom and Shiba Inu mix off leash when in a park or an outdoor adventure! Their inquisitive nature and desire for exploration can quickly lead them to trouble, so make sure they are leashed when outdoors.

Grooming

The Pom Shi is a moderate maintenance dog. It is low shedding breed and brushing it once a week will suffice to remove the dirt, mats, and loose hair on its coat.

The frequency of brushing will depend on the length of its hair which is determined by the genetics of the parents having the greatest influence in this mix breed.

Regular ears check-up is recommended and clean them as needed with a cotton ball and an approved canine ear cleaner. Be sure to check and trim her toenails weekly. Brushing their teeth 2-3 times a week is also advised.

Health Problems

In general, the Pom Shi dogs are quite healthy and are not affected by many hereditary issues. They have a life span of 12-15 years.

However, some potential health concerns may be:

Patellar Luxation

Hip Dysplasia

Mono/Bilateral Cryptorchidism

Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)

There may also be occasional diagnoses for Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Sebaceous Adenitis, hypothyroidism, and cataracts.

Regular visit to your veteran for check-ups and occasional tests for the pooch is advised, to keep him healthy.

Training

Pom Shi has a very strong personality and a dominant pack leader is needed to train him and put in its place. Early socialization is very important to raise a Pom Shi pup with the even tempered behavior and impeccable manners.

By using treats and praise to motivate your dog, instead of relying on harsher discipline methods, you can make sure that they find your instructions more appealing. Keep his training sessions short and fun because this will reduce the chances of boredom.

Food/Diet

Pom Shi is a small sized pooch and feeding him with high-quality dry dog food is the best option. A meal rich in <g class="gr_ gr_196 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="196" data-gr-id="196">protein,</g> should suffice your dog’s caloric needs. If you’ll go with commercial food, make sure it has barley, oatmeal, or rice.

Make sure to take into account your pet’s size and activity level, as many companies produce food that’s tailored to your pet’s unique needs.

Additionally, you could feed your Pom-Shi a homecooked or raw food diet, vegetables, fruits and more but make sure to consult a veterinarian before you make the switch.

Follow the serving sizes appropriate for your dog’s age and size, and don’t go overboard with treats as these dogs are prone to gain weight quickly.

Interesting Fact

Some Pom Shi breeders often promote them as ‘calmer’ Pomeranians or ‘friendlier’ Shiba Inus. They also try to market them as mini Shiba Inus, which is very misleading.

The Pugalier is a small sized, crossbred of the Pug and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The friendly little Pugalier is a playful and loving companion dog that makes a great addition to any family. The Pugalier may also be called a Pugilier or Puglier or the Cavapug.

Pug x Cavalier King Charles Spaniel = Pugalier

History/Origin of the Pugaliers

The Pugalier is likely dates to around the 1980s or 1990s when the crossing of pure-breds to produce an often healthier or non-shedding or smaller variation on a popular breed, first began.

The idea in creating the breed was to retain the charm of the Pug while minimizing its breathing problems by creating a slightly longer nose for the mixed offspring. They have become increasingly popular over the last 7-10 years.

Appearance

As the Pug and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are quite different breed dogs, so a considerable variation is seen in their progeny. However, most will have a distinctive look that defines them as their own breed.

Most Pugalier dogs have a slightly longer face than their Pug parent, thus reducing the risks of breathing problems. Many Pugaliers are larger than an average Pug. They have brown protruding eyes and soft and floppy ears.

The fur of the <g class="gr_ gr_23 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="23" data-gr-id="23">Puglier</g> is short and straight, except in a few cases where the longer and silkier Cavalier coat is inherited. Most Pugaliers are fawn colored, with some dogs having white markings on their bodies. But their faces are mostly all fawn with a dark area around their noses.

Temperament & Behavior

The Pugalier is a loving and friendly dog who thrives on human attention and companionship. While he may inherit some of the Pug’s spunk and willful nature, he most certainly will gain the sweet, calm characteristics and gentle personality traits of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Pugaliers are easy-going, inquisitive, and outgoing. It would be almost impossible to go wrong with a Pugalier’s temperament of these friendly and gentle dogs.

Pugliers can be curious and are stubborn at times. They are full of personality and will keep their owners entertained. Most Pug-Cavalier mixes get along well with children and other pets in the family.

Care ~ Exercise

Pugaliers are fairly active dogs and will benefit from daily exercise, which can include a walk, running indoor or outdoor play, and visits to the dog park. This will benefit your pet both physically and emotionally from interactive playtime.

The moderate activity requirements of this pooch <g class="gr_ gr_3 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="3" data-gr-id="3">makes</g> him ideal for flat or apartment style lifestyle. <g class="gr_ gr_114 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="114" data-gr-id="114">Howeve</g> in some cases they may tend to be lazy like the Pugs.

If they are outdoors it is important to make sure they don’t over-exert themselves and are not too long in the heat or cold, especially if they have a shorter muzzle. Make sure they have enough water as well.

Grooming

The <g class="gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="4" data-gr-id="4">Puglier</g> is a low maintenance dog. The breed will typically require a minimal amount of grooming. For those that inherit the short coat of the Pug, brushing should take place once a week; 2-3 times a week is best for those who inherit the coat of the Cavalier.

Those dogs with numerous wrinkles and folds should be wiped with a damp clean cloth on occasion in order to avoid developing a skin infection. Their eyes and ears should be checked to make sure they are clean and dry.
Brush the teeth of your pet several times per week to ensure his long-term dental health.

Dogs of the mix breeds will shed year round requiring some maintenance of your furniture, carpet, and clothes.

Health Problems

Pugalier is a healthy dog and has a life-span of 9-14 years depending on their weight and activity level. As a Designer Dog, the Pugalier has been bred with the goal of reducing many of the health issues that can pose problems for his parent breeds.

But while he may well be healthier than his parents, you should always take the time to learn what your new family member may inherit down the line.

Some of the heath issues faced by the Cavapugs are:

Hip Dysplasia

Heart Conditions

Patellar Luxation

Dry Eyes

Training

The Pugalier is a playful little dog who will respond best to training and socialization that takes place when he is still young and more inclined to pay attention.

Obedience training that addresses the 5 key commands as well as gradual exposure to new sights, sounds, and situations will make him more adaptable and less reactive. The Puglier’s loves his treats which should be top-quality and doled out only as earned.

Food/Diet

The <g class="gr_ gr_120 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="120" data-gr-id="120">Puglier</g> is a small dog that needs a nutrient-rich kibble designed for his size, age, and activity level. Plan to feed your pet 2 to 3 smaller meals throughout the day versus allowing him to free-feed.

Feed him with food that is higher in protein and lower in fillers such as carbs that will cause him to constantly feel hungry and want to over-eat – particularly given his propensity to suffer from joint issues later in life.

The adorable Papi-Poo is a cross between a purebred Papillon and Poodle.

Papillon x Poodle = Papipoo or Papi-Poo

History/Origin

The Papi-Poo is a designer crossbreed from the United States. The cute pooch is the offspring of a cross between a Papillon and the Poodle which has produced an enthusiastic dog that is easy and willing to be trained and is relatively easy to care for and is lovely for apartment-style lifestyle.

Appearance

This affectionate dog is a small sized toy dog who has a small well proportionate body with short legs. Despite its small size, the Papipoos are quite energetic and agile and perform well in sports like agility, hunting tests, and obedience if trained properly.

They have a round head with amber or brown colored bright eyes, and deep black nose to add charm to its fabulous personality.

They have short-medium wavy hair and tail with often a combination of 2 or more colors. They shed minimally and are hypoallergenic dogs.

Temperament and Behavior Traits

The Poodle-Papilon mix has a loving personality which you are immediately going to fall for. They are smart, devote, little mischievous but gentle canines, who make great family pets.

The Papi-poo loves to be around kids and will get along with other household pets and dogs. It is always eager to please its family and is willing to be held or cuddled by them and are great companion dogs.

It can be a bit wary and will alert you to strangers coming onto the property by barking loudly, due to its protective nature. It is one of the most popular Poodle mixes which has an affectionate temperament.

Care ~ Exercise

These little dogs are perfectly suited to life indoors and apartment lifestyle. They love running around the house and playing with toys and hopping around the furniture.

They prefer being involved in pet puzzles, games, balls, and plush toys are good options to keep your pet busy when indoors.

However, 15-20 minutes walk around the neighborhood or some free time to run or some playtime at the pet park is always welcomed and will keep the toy pooch engaged.

Grooming

The Papipoos are low shedder but are high-maintenance dogs requiring regular grooming. Their medium wavy hair needs to brush 3-4 days a week to keep them tidy and untangled. This helps to distribute their natural skin oils, keeping their skin and coat healthy.

Bathing is required for the dogs when they get dirty, or wiping them gently with a wet cloth to put of the dirt will suffice.

Other maintenance issues are their teeth; they will need these brushed at least twice a week to maintain oral health. A periodical ear and eye check, plus a gentle nail clip will keep your Papi-poo clean and tidy.

Health Problems

The Papi-Poo has an average lifespan of 10 to 14 years.

A primary advantage to crossbred dogs is that they usually pick up the healthier genes of its parent lineage. However, the Papipoo could possibly be susceptible to the health problems that commonly affect its parent breeds, the Papillon and Poodle.

Some disorders that you should keep an eye out for,

Patellar Luxation

Hip <g class="gr_ gr_31 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="31" data-gr-id="31">Dysplasia</g>

Bone Disorders.

A Papi-Poo may also develop hypothyroidism or eye conditions like progressive retinal atrophy.

Training

The Papi-Poo is a clever and smart breed and training them is not a difficult task. They love learning tricks, and pleasing their owners they enjoy a bit of training as long as it is positive and rewarding.

Since the pooch loves to play around and hop on kitchen furniture, teaching them basic commands will help them to obey instructions given.

Early socialization and interaction with people and other pets at the park will help them in building their social skills.

Take them out after meals, after grooming sessions, before bedtime, and in the morning.

Crate training is also recommended since it will help them accept confinement.

Feeding/Diet

It has high energy requirements, and so needs a nutrient-rich diet. It will enjoy a vegetarian diet containing some protein sources like baked beans, cottage cheese, lentils, and cooked eggs.

You add some healthy grain options like bread, brown rice, and wholegrain cereals to their daily diet. If you insist on providing commercial dry food, then the amount should be 1/2-1 cup per day.

Puppies

These tiny dogs are irresistibly adorable puppies. They seem like walking soft-toys. Handle these bundles of joy <g class="gr_ gr_187 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="187" data-gr-id="187">carefully,</g> and make sure you supervise your kids if they are going to be socializing and playing with the puppies as well.

Papi-Poo puppies can easily injure themselves if they jump off of the <g class="gr_ gr_15 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="15" data-gr-id="15">furniture</g>, such as your bed or the sofa, so you can purchase pet steps to help them get up and down from furniture, or you can teach them to wait for you to pick them up.

Start training your Papi-Poo starting in puppyhood to teach him to follow commands. Expose him to different people and pets so he can grow up to be a confident and friendly adult.<ins>
</ins>
