An Alusky is an energetic, charming, loyal, outgoing, and playful dog breed. They are a very social and active breed, getting along quite well with guests and strangers. This friendly trait makes them unreliable watchdogs.

So you need to train your dog to remain near you while walking on a leash, and you also need to raise your puppy with other pets so that he socialize properly with them.

However, they can at times be stubborn, headstrong, and a little temperamental in their nature. They are also known for their good memory, which can make it difficult for them to forget unpleasant situations and behavior towards them.

They are quickly bored and become destructive if they aren’t involved in family activities and given plenty of attention.

These pets can so well apartment lifestyle, provided they get considerable playing time. Since these husky mix dogs are known for their digging abilities, they will also be happier if they have access to a fenced yard and an area where they can dig freely.

Exercising or running it in hot and humid conditions should be avoided.

Besides physical exercise, it is advisable to provide these dogs with proper mental stimulation and dome playtime with toys will keep them amused and prevent them from getting bored and engaging in destructive behaviors.

After you bring an Alusky home, start feeding its meals inside the crate. Put a bowl of kibble just inside and order your pet to go to its crate in a cheerful voice. Give it plenty of treats and praises every time it obeys your command.

Obedience Training

Obedience training is important for puppies to learn the rules of the house, as well as to learn basic commands like “stay” and “sit.”

During their first 6 months, the puppies should be taught to ‘sit’, ‘stand’, ‘down’, ‘recall’, and ‘walk on lead’. Some other basic obedience commands that you can teach in the first year include ‘stand-stay’, ‘wait’, and ‘down-stay’.

An “Aussie Pom” is the crossbreed between a purebred standard, mini, or toy Australian Shepherd and Pomeranian.

This means that your dog is the product of two other Pomeranian Australian Shepherd mixes or that your puppy has one Pomeranian parent and one Australian Shepherd parent.

The interesting thing about the Pomeranian-Australian Shepherd mix breed is that it is free of all the genetic health issues that any pure breed dog might suffer from.

Owing to their small-medium size and sociable nature these dogs make perfect “companion dogs“.

The Appearance of Aussie Poms

Aussiepom dogs typically look like small Shepherds with fox-like, Pomeranian facial features.

Generally, the breed is small-medium-sized. The average weight is 10 to 30 pounds and the average height is 12 to 17 inches tall.

Their size depends on whether the Pomeranian is bred with a regular, mini, or toy Australian Shepherd.

They usually have a straight, soft, and medium-length coat in red merle, blue merle, tri-color (black, white, and tan), or a solid color with light Australian Shepherd markings.

The tail is medium length and feathered with a soft coat, with high-set pendent ears, a tapered muzzle, and medium-sized oval eyes.

Personality Traits and Behaviour

The Aussie pom is everything, from being loyal, faithful and doting to friendly and perfect watchdogs.

There is a calmness about them, and they always want to go ahead and please their owners whenever they can.

There is no danger in letting this dog play with children and are quite easy to train.

They are very warm personalities and want to snuggle up to you on the couch and have a sleep.

This Australian Shepherd and Pomeranian mixed breed are very sociable, and that does mean that you cannot leave them alone for a long time.

They will get exceptionally lonely and bored, and that is only going to lead to all kinds of problems. So avoid keeping them alone for long durations.

Exercise

These designer dogs are quite active, and a daily walk is a must. Smaller dogs only need to be walked once every day.

However, adult Aussiepoms that are bigger in size, closer to their larger parent, will probably need twice daily walks owing to their high energy levels.

Aussiepoms are sociable dogs who love to interact with other dogs as they will love it. They should have somewhere between 40 to 60 minutes of exercise daily.

They need to be kept occupied and mentally stimulated to avoid boredom setting in and that is not always going to be that easy to keep them entertained.

Diet/Feeding Requirements

It is important to monitor the diet of them Aussiepoms to be sure that they are receiving all of the nutrients that they need to really develop from good quality food.

Depending on their size, you need to look at one at least a cup of quality Kibble on a daily basis.

If you take a puppy from a breeder, then you can follow their instructions with both what to feed them as well as how often in a day.

Some small treats can also be allowed, but you might also want to put them on a fish oil supplement to help with some of their potential bone and joint issues.

Health Issues

Although crossbreeds are known to be more powerful when it comes to health than the pure breed dog, these mixes do have their set of health issues.

The main issues that you need to be aware of are as follows:

Elbow Dysplasia

Hip Dysplasia

Cataracts

Heart Issues

Kneecap Problems

Also, they can develop normal allergies and infections just like any breed, but those listed above are the most important ones to be aware of.

You should ask the breeder if the parents have been checked out for the problems and look for some evidence of this.

Grooming & Maintenance

Giving them a bath is not going to make you popular with your dog, but it will reduce the amount of shedding that goes on throughout the year.

A dog is a lifetime commitment. So, do not make these decisions on a whim.

Do make it a point to shower these dogs with lots of love.

Appearance

A full-grown Aussiepoodle range in size from somewhere between 20 to70 pounds depending on if they are a toy, mini or standard dogs. The quality of the coat also differs even between puppies within a litter.

Most of these dogs have soft and curly hair which they inherit from the tight curls of the poodles and the straight hair of the shepherds, their parents that are to say. They are mostly blue-eyed.

The torso of an Aussiedoodle can be broad with sturdy backs, while the smaller and cute puppies are lightly built though not “touch me not” types. An interesting part of breeding these puppies is that they do not have any rigid breed standard.

So unique dogs within the same breed are very much possible. There is a great range of variations in the same breed.

Temperament and Behavior

Aussiedoodles are miniature bundles of joy, very emotional, very friendly, very lovable and very sensitive. They are extremely intelligent as their parents and hence are endowed with work hard play hard strategies.

In fact, they are one of the most intelligent breeds ( or hybrid if you can say so) that the new world is witnessing.

You should not be surprised if your Aussiedoodle carries a gift for you. They are also good at teasing their fellow dogs, they show their toys to attract attention and then run away.

One of their favorite game is chasing! They are extremely agile and bouncy. They are like those break dancers who will keep you wondering whether they have bones or not. They are extremely loyal and they want to be a part of the family.

They meet and make friends instantly because they have separation anxiety. No wonder they are attention seekers. They want you to kiss them and snuggle them and pamper them. They can sneak into your bed at night and sleep near your head just to feel the warmth of human affection and avoid being lonely.

Keeping them outside the house or in kennels is literally a crime because they are hurt and very soon lose their temperance and emotional balance tending to be outcasts. It damages their Intelligence and well being, not to mention their health.

Aussiedoodles are a highly active breed because both their parents are water retrievers and famous herders. They like learning new tricks and tasks and remaining busy.

They are also called Therapy Dogs and help in recovery from traumatic experiences of life. They are emotional support dogs who are gentle with other people and animals and can reciprocate the need to be loved.

Miniature Aussiedoodle

The Miniature Aussiedoodle combines the hypo-allergenic Miniature Poodle with the Miniature Australian Shepherd. It brings the hypoallergenic properties of the Miniature Poodle together with the playful nature of the Miniature Australian Shepherd for an active, low-shedding dog that is great with kids and other animals.

Exercise

An hourly walk or jog will often do splendidly as these dogs love following their human companions wherever they go.

They like to be given tasks. These are busy little dogs. Learning new tricks can be a good holistic exercise to keep both mind and body engaged.

They simply adore swimming. What can be a better exercise where a beach or a pool becomes a favorite gym for the Aussiedoodle?

They also like helping with daily chores and are a great company in the kitchen or gardening.

You don’t require rigorous training for this playful breed. They just need to exhaust their energy as they are supercharged and require to remain healthy and lean.

They need a good walk or active playtime every single day. They can participate in dog sports as agility, flyball, obedience, and rally.

Grooming

Poodles are hypoallergenic dogs. The Australian shepherds have a smooth, dual coat of hair. As a result, Aussiedoodle hair is soft, though they generally don’t shed very much. They can be groomed in various ways depending on the owner’s humor.

Nevertheless, grooming an Aussiedoodle depends on how curly its coat is. Dogs that have a wavier coat often only require combing once or twice a week, whereas dogs with a curlier coat need to be groomed more often.

Their coats can be shaggy and fluffy. So regular brushing is mandatory. They can be given a good haircut for a great summer fashion. They are not low-maintenance dogs when it comes to hairstyles.

Other needs include brushing teeth at least two to three times a week, cleaning of ears once a week and checking for infection and clipping the nails at certain intervals.

Many images on Pinterest and Instagram of these miniature stylists are an interesting mix and match of colors, hairstyle, and dresses!!

Health Problems

Hybrid is often expected to be a healthy offspring of its parents but genetics do not act in the same manner as per expectation.

Aussiedoodles may develop health conditions common to both Australian Shepherds and Poodles if the breeder is not very authentic and ethical. They include

Hip Dysplasia

Cataracts

Progressive retinal atrophy

Epilepsy

Autoimmune thyroiditis and

A skin disease called sebaceous dysplasia

Collie’s nose

Patellar Luxation

Most toy breeds suffer from dental problems as well. A regular visit to the vet is a must to keep them healthy and increase their longevity.

Training

The ideal time to socialize and shape the puppy’s personality is about 3 weeks to 14 weeks old. After 14 weeks, it becomes difficult to socialize and shape the behavior.

The training of such dogs is a combination of both corrective action and positive reinforcement. The pack leader” theory, which leads the dog to believe that the trainer is in charge creates a submissive and well-behaved dog, rather than a naughty dog who jumps on the counter and helps themselves to your sandwich.

They must be trained to socialize or they might suffer from aggression, a trait common to both poodles and Australian shepherds.

Diet & Feeding

Aussiedoodles are extremely high energy dogs and require a balanced diet in order to stay strong and healthy. Like all dogs, Aussiedoodles need varied nutrients including a specific diet full of protein, fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.

On an average, Aussiedoodles should eat two meals per day.

It’s very important to change the dog’s food now and then for optimal nutrition and to prevent allergies

You can add a vitamin supplement to the Aussiedoodle’s diet.

A balanced diet with exercise will keep them healthy and energetic.

Origin & History

The American English Coonhound was initially brought to the United States by European settlers during the 17th and 18th centuries. First called “Virginia Hounds (and imported to the U.S. by Robert Brooke, Thomas Walker, and George Washington), the American Coonhound was bred to adapt to a more rigorous terrain.

These dogs were used to hunt raccoons and the American Red Fox. The American Coonhound was also used to hunt opossums, cougars, deer, boars, bobcats, and bears. In 1905 the English Coonhound was first registered by UKC under the name of English Fox & Coonhound and was recognized by the AKC in June 2011.

Temperament/Behavior of English Coonhound

A well-mannered dog, the American English Coonhound, is a loving and loyal family companion that is pleasant to humans and other dogs. They may tend to be active and quite loud. These hunting breed dogs love to roam and follow every interesting scent and sound. Because they love to roam, this breed should be kept on a leash when it is not in an enclosed area.

The American English Coonhound is curious and will sniff and eat items left out on the counter. Since they like to chew anything it can, so its advisable not to keep anything lying around that you’d like to see remain intact.

It has a high chasing instinct and is not suitable for families with small household pets unless trained otherwise. It will protect its family when threatened but usually won’t attack without provocation. It is watchful of its territory and will howl loudly at the sight of anything suspicious.

Care ~ Exercise, Grooming and Health Problems

Exercise: This is a high-energy breed that needs plenty of daily exercises to burn its energy. You may also train it for hunting, tracking, or field trials. As a family, you can enjoy playing games such as fetch and hide-and-seek with your dog, along with long brisk walks.

Active families can make American English Coonhound a jogging or biking partner. This breed is happy when they get plenty of mental and physical stimulation. They can become destructive if they become bored, depressed, frustrated, anxious or hyperactive.

Grooming: The American English Coonhound is a low maintenance breed. Their coat needs occasional brushing using a hound glove or soft bristle brush. You should regularly clean their ears to prevent irritation and infections.

American English Coonhounds do shed, and many of them shed very, very heavily. Many breed members will completely cover furniture, clothes, and carpets with hair, and this breed would be a poor choice for an allergy sufferer or merely someone who hates the thought of cleaning up dog hair.

Health Problems: A relatively healthy breed, the English Coonhound has an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years. Due to its size, the American English Coonhound’s most common health issue is hip dysplasia.

Other health problems that may occur in this breed include ear infections, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and polyradiculoneuritis.

Training Requirements

To train your American English Coonhound, you’ll need to possess a kind but firm hand. With sufficient exercise, socialization, and training they make a fantastic four-legged best friend.

As the leader, you should always maintain calm, confident, and assert consistent authority while training.

The American English Coonhound is easily distracted and likes to learn at its own pace, you may find that it will take more time, repetition and patience. Some American English Coonhounds have a one-track mind – they’ll only be interested in hunting and treeing its prey.

With these types of dogs, use extra motivation in order to instill basic obedience skills. If you ignore your American English Coonhound’s training, expect him to take on dominant or shyness traits.

Diet/Feeding

The English Coonhound is an active breed and naturally consumes more food than a normal dog. It is recommended to choose a diet that is free of unnecessary additives such as corn or grain, rich in meat protein high-quality diet.

It is also recommended to divide the daily consumption into 2-3 meals a day instead of leaving it available all the time to help your companion maintain a healthy weight and avoid boredom eating.
