Alusky (Husky Malamute)

Alusky is a cross between two purebred arctic dog breeds, the Siberian Husky and the Alaskan Malamute.

It is a designer dog of large breed dogs having its origin in the USA. It has a stunning appearance which results from the combination of both its parents’ personality and physical traits.

Most of these Malamute Husky Mix dogs are working dogs and are used for carting, sledding, racing, hauling freight, hunting seals and polar bears in cold climates, as well as for search and rescue work.

The Alusky dogs have a wolf-like appearance, and its majestic coat and sturdy looks give it an eye-catching personality. They have thick and dense coat, fluffy tails, upright ears, and deep and broad muzzle.

The most common coat colors silver, brown, white, golden, cream, red, salt, and pepper. Their tails are heavily furred and their overall appearance is compact and long. They weigh around 27 to 45 Kg (60-100 lb) and are 66 to 71 cm (26-28 inches) tall.

Temperament and Behavior

An Alusky is an energetic, charming, loyal, outgoing, and playful dog breed. They are a very social and active breed, getting along quite well with guests and strangers. This friendly trait makes them unreliable watchdogs.

They have an inherent prey drive, which means they might chase smaller animals including cats, squirrels, rabbits, and other dogs. So you need to train your dog to remain near you while walking on a leash, and you also need to raise your puppy with other pets so that he socialize properly with them.

However, they can at times be stubborn, headstrong, and a little temperamental in their nature. They are also known for their good memory, which can make it difficult for them to forget unpleasant situations and behavior towards them.

Aluskies won’t do well when they are left alone for extended periods of time. They are quickly bored and become destructive if they aren’t involved in family activities and given plenty of attention.

These pets can so well apartment lifestyle, provided they get considerable playing time. Since these husky mix dogs are known for their digging abilities, they will also be happier if they have access to a fenced yard and an area where they can dig freely.



The Alusky is an energetic breed known for its stamina and endurance. Make sure that your pet dog gets an adequate amount of walking, hiking, digging and playing.
They are prone to weight gain and obesity if it does not get the exercise it needs to keep fit.

Aluskies originate from very cold climates and are extremely sensitive to high temperatures due to their fluffy and dense double coat. Exercising or running it in hot and humid conditions should be avoided.

Besides physical exercise, it is advisable to provide these dogs with proper mental stimulation and dome playtime with toys will keep them amused and prevent them from getting bored and engaging in destructive behaviors.


The Husky Malamute Mix shed a lot, all year round, but even more seasonally. They should be brushed daily undercoat rake or a slicker brush is necessary during spring and fall since it sheds heavily during these seasons. For the rest of the year, brushing their coat a few times a week will keep their fur good and healthy.

Bathing sessions are seldom required unless they get dirty or smelly. Occasional cleaning is needed to clean their ears to prevent ear infections.

Training your Alusky dog should be fun! However, they can be difficult to train and first time owners who are not well informed about dog behavior will find it difficult to train them.
