The Chi Apso is a small designer breed dog, the result of crossing a Chihuahua with a Lhasa Apso.

Chihuahua X Lhasa Apso = Chi Apso

The Chihuahua/Lhasa Apso mix is also known as the Lhasa Chi. This is a spunky and loyal dog which brings together the unique blend of playful nature of the Lhasa Apso and the sassy Chihuahua. These dogs pack a lot of attitude but loving being a part of the family.

The Appearance

The Lhasa Apso is small dog weighing 10 to 20 pounds and standing 8 to 11 inches tall with a long and sturdy body.

They have deep brown eyes, medium size black muzzle, and floppy ears. This breed has well defined small teeth, and the jaw may present with a slight under bite (like the Lhasa Apso parent).

They usually have thick, dense, double coat which may be golden, brown, tan, cream, white and black in color or the combination of any two.

Temperament

The Chi Apso is a sweet, intelligent, and a gentle dog. They love cuddling and enjoys receiving lots of love and affection from his family.

This is a fun-loving and friendly breed and makes a great dog for a family, couple, kids, or single owner looking for companionship.

Your Chi Apso can either be very quiet and cautious, or very dominating or protective. They may behave stubborn at times which makes their training a task. These toy dogs may suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for long duration.

Care ~ Exercise

The Chi Apso relatively require low activity and they are not a demanding canine. A couple short walks, jogging each day and some active playtime with toys in the park or indoors in a yard will keep him happy, healthy and mentally stimulated.

Grooming

The Lhasa Apso Chihuahua Mix is a low to moderate maintenance dog. They shed moderately with loose hair lying around the house. Brush their coat in 2-3 days to keep their hair untangled and debris free.

Bathing should be done only when your dog is dirty and is needed with a good dog shampoo. Take your dog to the groomer every 5 to 7 weeks in order to tidy up the coat and keep it in nice shape.

Other grooming needs are like any dogs, like trimming the nails, cleaning the ears to avoid infection, brushing their teeth and more. All this will keep your dog neat, tidy and healthy.

Health Problems

A Chi Apso is a fairly healthy dog with an average lifespan of 12-15 years. However, it can inherit some health issues from its parents who have not been cleared of certain issues like;

Eye Problems

Patellar Luxation

Kidney Issues

Hypoglycemia

Heart Problems

Collapsed Trachea

Hydrocephalus

Open Fontanel

Shivering and allergies

So be sure to check with the breeder all the health clearances of the pooch. You should also visit the puppy before buying to check on the conditions he has been kept in. A regular visit to the veteran for health check ups will keep the canine healthy.

Training

These dogs are little hard to train for first time dog owners. They might behave independent and stubborn at time and not respond to training sessions. However, a calm and positive trainer will be able to handle them well.

Positive reinforcements and rewards will work well with them.

Obedience training with commands from its puppy hood day will nurture him nicely.

Early socialization is required for the pups so that they are even tempered and do not shy away or become restless or scared with strangers.

Food/Diet

The Chi Apso is a small dog that needs a top quality dry food/kibble specifically designed for his size and lifestyle. Do not over do the treats or over feed your pooch as their low physical activity may lead to obesity. Try to give him 2-3 small meals instead of 1 full meal with balanced nutrients.

Registries

Not being a pure-bred, the Chi Apso is not a member of the American Kennel Club (AKC) though both parent breeds are long-time members.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x American Eskimo Dog = Cav-A-Mo

Cav-A-Mos are small-medium sized canines and tend to be loyal, active, playful, and outgoing. These little dogs make a great family companion.

Appearance

The Cav-a-Mo small sized one usually does not weigh over twenty pounds and is around one foot in height at the shoulder. The size of a Cav-A-Mo depends on the size of parents and the dominance of the genetic traits. Unlike his parent breed the Cav-A-Mo does not generally have the ear fringing of the Spaniel family.

The body of the Cav-A-Mo is generally longer than it is tall giving them a rectangular appearance. They have a medium to long coat, which may be little wavy or curly. He may be white with brown, fawn, red, or black markings. He may also have hair growth between his toes much like the American Eskimos.

They have beautiful eyes which are round and expressive. The dog has a curly tail over the back and be thickly covered with fur.

Temperament

The Cav-a-Mo is a very sweet little dog. He is playful, energetic and lively. With time they tend to mature and be more “calm” and “even-tempered” in his behavior.

He loves his family, and he will want to be with you everywhere you go making a great companion dog. Generally, Cav-A-Mos are great with children but need supervision with younger kids as thepooch is sensitive to clumsy touching.

Not keen on being left alone for long periods and can suffer from separation anxiety. They can become destructive if left to his own devices day after day.

Care ~ Exercise

The Cav-a-Mo is a lively, energetic little dog who calms down as he ages. He needs a minimum of 30-45 minutes of daily exercise to channelize his pent-up energy, which otherwise might lead to destructive behavior.

A long walk, jog and frequent visits to the dog park is recommended for the Cav-a-Mo; he will definitely enjoy the interaction with other pets.

It is not recommended that you let your Cav-a-Mo unattended, outside in a yard without a fence. He has a reputation for chasing cars, so if you are outside with him, be sure to your pooch is on a leash or in a fenced-in area.

Grooming & Maintenance

The Cav-a-Mo is a seasonal shedder and has moderate grooming requirements. Brush his coat at least once a week to even out the tangles in his fur and remove any loose hair or dirt.
You may need to brush him two or three times a week during shedding season. Use a soft, bristle brush to work any tangles and mats out of his hair. Brushing the teeth of your dog two or three times a week will help prevent tooth decay, injury to the gum.

Training

He is smart and one of the easier breeds to train, though he needs reinforcement with treats and other positive measures. He is good in obeying commands and listening to his own more than other breeds.

Diet/Feeding

he Cav-A-Mo is not generally a picky eater. Quality dog food 1-2 cups a day with a balanced nutrition is good. They may tend to overeat and should be fed accordingly.

Temperament & Behavior

Cotralians are loving, playful, social, intelligent, and loyal dogs that work well in families where they can be the center of attention. They need supervision as they tend to be a little aggressive with small children and other pets. This is most likely due to the herding and hunting instincts of his parent’s lineage. They may show aggression to them as well as smaller pets<g class="gr_ gr_25 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style replaceWithoutSep" id="25" data-gr-id="25">.</g>

Care ~ Excercise

The Cotralian needs 1 to 1 ½ hour of physical and mental activity to channelize their energies and keep them happy. A long walk or a jog, training, and playing fetch in the yard or at a park will be great for your <g class="gr_ gr_626 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation multiReplace" id="626" data-gr-id="626">pet.</g>

Grooming

This Cocker Spaniel Australian Shepherd cross is a moderate maintenance dog. Since both of his parent breeds shed seasonally so weekly grooming will be required for the Cotralians.

Brush your pet’s hair 4-5 times a week with a comb or brush in order to remove any dirt and loose fur that may be lying on the body. This will keep the hair untangled, clean, and shiny.

Clipping their nails of the paws once a month or so to keep the feet healthy and snag free.

Bathing only needs to occur once every month or whenever your pooch gets dirty. Clean and dry your dog’s ears especially after a bath, because the Cotralian has folded over ears, moisture can accumulate and cause ear infections.

Health Problems

The Cotralians is generally a healthy breed and with life span of 12-14 years. However it is prone to some health issues like deafness, so hearing checks are essential early on.

Hip Dysplasia and eye problems, like Retinal <g class="gr_ gr_3 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="3" data-gr-id="3">Dysplasia</g> could occur, as could some heart issues.

Training

Cotralians are intelligent dog breeds, thus they are easy to train and respond well to consistency. It is important to spend a lot of time training your Cotralian so that no bad manners or aggression can be developed. If you do so, your puupy will be able to grow responsibly by putting his energy into productive use.

Feeding/Diet

Cotralians are high activity dogs and need a well-balanced diet. 2-3 cups of good dog food and diet like similar sized dogs will be advisable.

History of Caucasian Ovcharka

It’s believed that the Caucasian Shepherd dogs have been around for more than 2,000 years. Although its first official Show-Ring appearance outside the Caucasus was in the 1930s in Germany, the Caucasian Mountain Dog has existed since ancient times, like many Eastern Molossers.

It is believed they might be related to the Tibetan Mastiff or the Anatolian Shepherd. Many types of research show the Caucasian dog as being a close relative of sheepdogs of the Balkans and mastiffs of Asia.

In ancient times the Caucasian Ovcharka Dogs were used for the guarding and safe-keeping of herds, flocks, and dwellings from predators.

Now, Caucasian shepherd dog is a fully standardized breed recognized by the major kennel organizations, including FCI, AKC, and UKC.

Types of According to Coat Type

For almost a century, there has been two breed types and standards:

The Mountain Type: The long-coated variety and has a heavier body mass than the other one.

The Steppe Type: The short-coat variety or, the Kazbek types with lighter body mass.

Temperament and Behavior

The Caucasian Mountain dog is a confident, bold, fearless, and fierce when a threat is present, but he is soft, devoted, kind and endearing to his family,

These dogs are very strong and are considered an extremely intelligent breed with a big instinct to protect anyone in the family including pets, livestock, making excellent watchdogs and livestock guard dogs.

The Ovcharka is incredibly loyal to his owners but fierce in their defense. They are not high energy dogs, but their size demands space, and so they are usually not recommended for apartment life.

It is recommended not leave them alone with children, else they might mess trying to be over-protective. They are not too friendly with strangers but would welcome family friends. However, properly trained ones have earned obedience and Canine Good Citizen titles, and some are even therapy dogs.

Care

Exercise

Exercise, daily walks and playtime should be a crucial part of the Caucasian Shepherd dog daily routine life to help prevent obesity.

Outdoor activities such as hiking, chasing balls and retrieving flying discs can be a good outlet of releasing energy.

Even though it is a low energy dog, he should have good endurance for walking and hiking. Some breeders encourage endurance tests.

Grooming

The Caucasian Shepherd has a variety of coat types, Long and Short.

The coat of the long-haired variety requires frequent brushings, paying special attention to the spots where tangles may occur. Longer-coated dogs need to be groomed daily.

The shorthaired variety needs less grooming, but should still be combed and brushed.

Their ears should be regularly checked to avoid a buildup of wax and debris which can result in an infection.

Their fast-growing nails should be trimmed regularly with a nail clipper or grinder to avoid overgrowth, splitting and cracking. Teeth should be brushed regularly.

Health Issues

The Caucasian Mountain Dog is generally healthy and long-lived with a lifespan of 10-12 years

However, like many giant dog breeds, they may suffer from some health issues in the form of

but the majority of these dogs are healthy if taken care of correctly.

Working with a responsible breeder, those wishing to own a Caucasian Shepherd can gain the education they need to know about specific health concerns within the breed.

Training

Caucasian Ovcharka dogs are usually not easy to train. This breed is very assertive and strong-willed and will need to be taught basic manners and good behavior from a very young age.

The Caucasian Ovcharka requires a very strong and confident leader that consistently exerts their place as head of the pack. So be sure to lead the dog while jwalking to ensure your own pack leadership.

Talk to his trainer about instituting a nothing-in-life-is-free program, requiring the puppy to “work” by performing a command before he receives toys, meals, treats or play.

Feeding/Diet

The huge Caucasian Ovcharka Dog has a huge appetite. You should feed this canine breed with high-quality food which should provide necessary nutrition.

Feed the young puppies 2-3 times a day, and adults 1-2 times daily. A high-quality dry dog food is also recommended for a healthy diet. Clean and fresh water in large bowls should be available at all times.

Feeding your dog is a personal choice, but working with your veterinarian and/or breeder will be the best way to determine the frequency of meals as a puppy and the best adult diet to increase his longevity.

Caucasian Ovcharka Puppies

The training of the pups should begin as early in life as possible, and socialization is practically a must.

Proper socialization training has to be done to overcome the breed’s apprehension around new people and animals, which can result in aggression.

And note that Ovcharka puppies are inveterate chewers, so don’t give them the roam of the house until they’ve reached maturity.

What is a Coydog?

The Coydog or Coyote Dog is the hybrid result from the mixing of a dog breed (huskies or other spitz-type dogs) and a coyote.

A true coydog has one pure coyote as one of its parents. One needs to make the difference between the coydog and the coywolf, as these terms are often mistaken for one another.

The Appearance of a Coydog

Coydogs are very rare breed mainly because of the limited breeding season of the coyotes. The coydog may differ in appearance depending on their parent’s breed. Coyote dogs have an athletic and strong built.

They are medium to large in size with triangular ears and a long muzzle like coyotes.

Their eyes are usually brown and can be quite sharp and piercing. They have a hairy and downward tail. Coydogs howl like coyotes but also bark like dogs.

History of Coyote Dog/ Coydog

The origin and history of a coydog are not well known. Many people believe that the breed is a myth, despite several breeders producing coydog puppies.

The breed is believed to have been created for centuries and some evidence has pointed to the people of Teotihuacan breeding coyote dogs to produce a powerful and loyal hunting companion.

Coydogs make sounds that are a mix of a howl and a high pitch bark which is a unique ability owing to its coyote parents.

Temperament and Personality Traits

The owners of coyote dogs should be aware that the temperament and traits of a coydog may vary between coydogs of the same litter.

Overall, coydogs are quite unpredictable and are not meant for the first time dog owners.

Coydogs are not a preferred choice for a pet for most people do not have the knowledge regarding natural canine instinct and their behavior!

The individual behavior and nature of the coydogs might range from a shy, timid nature, to a gentle, friendly one, to an aggressive and fearful that would feel threatened and afraid very easily.

Coydogs tend to be one person pets, as they demand personal attention. However, if socialized and trained properly they can be loving and kind to the entire family.

Anyone keeping these dogs needs to be a 100% firm, confident, and a consistent pack leader.

Care ~ Exercise, Grooming & Health Problems

Exercise

Coydogs are very energetic and agile and need daily exercise schedules to burn their energy levels.

Regular activities, running, brisk walking, jogging, and sufficient playtime is recommended to expend their energy or else they may result in aggressive or destructive in nature.

High level of activities and vigorous exercise schedules like brisk walking, jogging, and playtime regularly meet their such needs of burning out the energy.

Since Coydogs are intelligent indulging them in activities like toys, flyball, agility test, obedience competitions will be great for their development.

Grooming

Coyote Dogs are not high maintenance dogs and grooming them every day is an easy task.

The grooming needs of a coydog may vary depending on their coat type and their parent dog breed. However, a standard coydog should be groomed like regular dogs of the same size and hair type.

Brush their coat only when it is necessary and keep a check on them to keep them clean and tidy to avoid any skin irritation or allergies.

Trimming their nails once a month is advised if they don’t shed on their own.

Health Problems

The coydog is a hardy breed with few health issues.

Arthritis

Hip dysplasia

Elbow dysplasia
