The Miki Dog rare breed of small toy dogs that have been developed during the 1980s, using different breeds introduced in North America.

What is a Miki Dog?

The sociable and sweet-natured little Mi-Ki dog breed is an up-and-coming companion toy dog. It’s a small-sized dog which weighs some 4 and 10 pounds. The Mi-Ki is cat-like in agility but all dogs when it comes to loyalty and friendliness.

Renowned for his gentle nature, the Mi-Ki is calm, adaptable, and delightfully Gremlin-like (remember Hollywood’s 1984 movie Gremlins?) in appearance.

Appearance

Its apple domed head features large dark eyes, and a short, wide muzzle, with a black nose. These dogs have large dark eyes and a characteristic stop. The mini Miki dog has erect feather ears that are quite movable.

The body of the dog is somewhat elongated with a straight, leveled backline, that stands upon four hare-like feet. With their little size and gentle nature, Mikis usually make great condo or apartment dogs.

History

Miki though a recent breed but it a rare one, and the history of this breed is in ambiguity and is still debated. There are different theories to the origin of Miki dogs.

According to the Mi-Ki Club of America, Inc., the Mi-Ki is thought to be Asian. It is debated that it shares common ancestors with the Papillon, the Maltese, and the Japanese Chin.

Unfortunately, the bleak details of the Mi-Ki make it impossible to tell the percentage of each parent breed in its makeup.

In 1992, testing revealed a specific DNA profile, naming the Mi-Ki, a purebred dog. The Mi-Ki was recognized by the States Kennel Club in 1995.

Some theories also suggest that other breeds like the Yorkshire Terrier, Pomeranian, Pekingese, and Shih Tzu may have been used. But, no one knows if this is true.

Temperament and Behavior

The most amazing trait of the Miki dog is their adaptability, to people and situations. These dogs are obeying, extremely affectionate, as also alert at the same time. Thus, they are well-suited pet for the elderly and disabled people since they make good therapy dogs and companion dogs.

Though they are alert, they are also calm and quiet at times, and rarely bark for no reason, but mostly, if only feel threatened. They have a high degree of intelligence that would easily excel in the obedience ring.

This dog is a quick learner who would grow up to a good service dog. Like cats, they are social by nature with an even temperament, as they also love children, spending playful moments with them, prancing upon toys and play objects.

The Mikis are even comfortable with other pets, including cats. They are non-aggressive, but rather friendly with strangers, and would get along well with them.

Care – Exercise

Given their size and enthusiastic personality a Miki dog needs a daily walk. Take it out regularly, especially to help release its energy. They are active by nature and would play all day in a small house or apartment (or even get used to their kennels). But, allowing them to play openly in an enclosed area, if available, is also good for their mental happiness.

Grooming

The low shedding Miki dog needs brushing at least once a week. This is to get rid of any possible dust particles they might catch in between their hairs while playing restlessly all day, as also to retain the usual smoothness.

The short muzzle of the Miki dog is prone to get them respiratory issues. So, do keep an eye. Also, weekly cleaning of their teeth is advisable for keeping them healthy. You can also shave their face and feet to help them stay clean, hygenic, and germ-free since they are prone to grow long hairs in between their toes.

Training

Training the intelligent Mi-Ki dog is rather easy, as they’re positive spirits and eager to please their masters. You should begin training your Miki puppy from 3-4 months of age. Teach the little one to come when it is asked to, or stay when it is told to. Give them lots of obedience and success rewards, and supply them with lots of encouragement.

Health Problems/Issues

Mi-Ki is a very healthy breed with no known breed-specific health issues. However, as mentioned, respiratory disorders might pester it at times. Also, do not ignore keeping an eye on other common dog diseases and problems.

Diet/Feeding

Dry food, over raw food, is better for the playful Miki dog since it needs almost a constant supply of glucose, especially the puppies.

Ready kibbles are a good supply of glucose since they might consume this at any point in time if supplied. Glucose deficiency often leads the puppy to ‘crash’.

Raw meat or canned food is certainly a good idea, though, since it is the ultimate source of energy for most canines and dog breeds in the longer run. However, do not consider the quantity of your Miki’s food with respect to the weight of your dog, but rather, on its daily level of exercise and activity. Also, remember that underweight or an obese Miki might easily bring in many health problems later.

Temperament and Characteristics

They are happy, cheerful and friendly dogs who are quite energetic and alert. They are great family dogs and get well along with people. They make a playful companion to children, but adult supervision is recommended when around young babies or toddlers.

Fourche Terrier dogs are intelligent and inquisitive by nature. They may get suspicious and wary of strangers thus making excellent watchdogs. This trait is inherited from its parent’s both of which are good at watching and guarding.

They tend to be controlling, temperamental or stubborn, so its best to train them from a young age to make them even-tempered and obeying.

Care ~ Exercise

The furry Fourche Terriers are energetic and lively and need a good amount of exercise or playtime to be both mentally and physically stimulated. A daily walk or running session of 60-90 minutes will keep them occupied and away from boredom. They are interested in playing with toys, swimming, chasing balls, playing frisbee, etc to keep them entertained.

Grooming

The Yorkie West may be a high maintenance dog. Their thick coat requires regular brushing while the hair around the ears, eyes, and feet need occasional trimming. To keep tidy their coat shiny, and free from dirt, bathe them when necessary.

These dogs are prone to skin conditions so you should only use a mild shampoo or soap as suggested by your vet. Check and clean their ears once a week to keep them infection free and avoid wax build-up. Other grooming tips are the general ones, including trimming their nails and brushing their teeth regularly to avoid dental infections.

Health Problems

This is a fairly healthy crossbreed, which may be prone to any of the diseases that occurs in its parent breeds. Theaverage life expectancy for this dog is 12 to 15 years, which is the typical lifespan of most dogs this size. The owners, therefore, should take them from responsible breeders.

Some common health issues may include;

Cataracts

Patellar Luxation

Progressive Retinal Atrophy

Hypoglycemia

Lung Diseases

Training

The Fourche Terrier can at times act stubborn and commanding, so its best to train your dog from its puppyhood. It is important to teach them to be even-tempered and well-behaved with small kids. Positive reinforcement and socialization from early days make them well-rounded dogs who readily obey commands.

Obedience Training: This breed is quick to pick commands and hence training them to obey commands like “come”, “sit”, “stay” is not a difficult task.

Feeding/Diet

Owing to its high energy and activities, this dog’s diet is more than other dogs in their size category. A full-grown Fourche Terrier needs 1-2 cups of quality dry food every day, divided into two small meals. You should keep a check on your dog’s weight to ensure they don’t overeat and gain weight. Gaining weight can be detrimental to the dog’s health. A well-balanced diet and clean drinking water will be apt for this cute pooch to keep healthy.

The Griffonshire is a cute and adorable cross between two purebred dog breeds, the Brussels Griffon and the Yorkshire Terrier (both parents are toy breeds)

Brussels Griffon X Yorkshire Terrier = Griffonshire

The Appearance

This Brussels Griffon Yorkie mix is a cute bundle of joy, which is a small sized dog which may weigh up to 8-10 pounds and grow up to 8-10 inches tall when fully grown.

The appearance and its personality largely depend on the parent’s breed. This breed can have a rough and wiry coat like the Brussels Griffon or long and silky straight hair like the Yorkie. They can come in many different colors but the most common include golden, black, brown, cream, and blue.

The Griffonshire has a small black nose, short muzzle, and a small but stocky body that is not delicate. Due to its small features, it looks like a puppy even in its adulthood days.

Temperament/Behaviour

The Griffonshire Terrier is an intelligent high energy dog breed which often spends its time being happy and excited. This is a smart dog breed and your dog will be sassy, lovable and very loyal too. Griffonshires have bursts of energy and playfulness and are cute and active pooches.

They may be difficult to train at times, thus they should be given obedience training from their puppy days. However, with proper time and patience, you can use positive reinforcement techniques to make him obey your commands.

They may suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for long periods of time. So its best to keep them company and busy to avoid temperamental issues. These dogs are perfect for apartment-style living.

Care ~ Exercise

These dogs are tiny energy bundles and need at least exercise for 45 to 60 minutes per day. This will help them to channelize their energies and keep them even-tempered.

Take your dog out for a brisk walk or jog in the morning and then you could take her out to the dog park or for a hike in the local park in the evening.

They love playing dog games like fetch, Frisbee, and flyball as well as agility training, which she could be quite good at, despite their small size.

Grooming/Maintenance

Both the Brussels Griffon and Yorkshire Terrier required a lot of grooming time. Hence, its offspring the Griffonshire is also a medium maintenance dog, depending on the type of its coat it inherits.

The dogs with silky, longer coats will need daily brushing with a pin brush or metal brush to keep away tangles and remove debris. The shorter hair ones can have to brush two or three times a week.

His teeth should be brushed at least two to three times a week to keep away tar development. Regular clipping of his nails when they become too long is recommended. Check his ears once a week for infection and then give them just a wipe clean with an ear cleanser.

Health Issues

A Griffonshire dog is usually a healthy breed with some of its health concerns passed on from the parent’s lineage. They have an average life-span of 12-14 years.

Common health problems include;

Patellar Luxation

Eye problems

Skin allergies

Hip Dysplasia

Hypoglycemia

Collapsed Trachea

Reverse Sneezing

Training

He is smart and tends to listen and obey well but he can sometimes have a stubborn side so training will likely be moderately easy. Be consistent and positive, offer him encouragement and reward him for his successes. Treats are often a great motivator.

Early Socialization alongside training and play time will get him used to different people, children, animals and places. He will be a more confident and happy dog.

Positive Reinforcement techniques will help them know you are the master and also help them to remove any small dog syndrome if they suffer from any.

Diet/Feeding

Feed him good quality dog food as per his age and size. On average, he should be fed ½ to 1 cup of quality dry dog food each day, split into at least two meals. Fresh drinking water should be available at all times.

They are a fairly active breed of dogs who gets along well with kids and other pets in the family making them an great companion dogs for homes with children.

Owing to their affectionate and adjusting personality they are suitable for apartment lifestyle, provided they get sufficient exercise and playtime. They are not much adaptable to cold climate, though they are pretty much resistant to heat. Bea Tzuz are generally quiet by nature however, they might grow up to be a barker/woofer depending on his genetic traits.

Care ~ Exercise

While the Bea Tzu is a bundle of high-energy, it doesn’t take a lot of activity time to meet his needs. Daily walks, jogs coupled with some indoor playtime will channelize their energies well and keep them mentally and physically stimulated.

Grooming

The Bea Tzu’s are hypoallergenic dogs and has soft low-shedding coat making him an ideal choice for those that don’t like constant vacuuming. However, brushing your dog regularly is important, or else they would end up getting their hair matted.

Clip their nails regularly and brush the teeth twice a week and check the ears for infections on a weekly basis. Bathe them only when necessary with a good dog shampoo. A visit to professional groomers once in a while is recommended to keep the hair around their face trimmed, tidy and clean.

Epilepsy

CBS

Patellar Luxation

Positive Reinforcement: Be firm in your approach, but never be rude to the pooch as this may strike some behavioural issues with them. Encourage him with rewards, praises and treats for a job well done versus scolding.

Obedience training, socialization crate training in their puppy hood days will help them in nurturing into a playful and calm dog. Be aware that your dog does not develop issues like “small dog syndrome” which is common in dogs of smaller size.

Feeding/Diet

Provide good quality dry dog food to the Bea-Tzu two times daily. Refer an expert to consider the quantity of food for these small sized dogs. The Beagle Tzu mix is an active dog and needs good nutritious food to be healthy.

Temperament and Behavior

Havapoos are adorable little creatures that are friendly, energetic, playful, loving, intelligent, and outgoing. The temperament of the Havapoos will depend on their behavioral traits inherited from both their parent breeds.

They greet their owners with all love, enthusiasm, and joy. They are an intelligent dog breed, and very willing to please, making them easy to train and teach tricks. Owing to their playful instincts, they love playing with small kids and other pets of the house. However, small-size dogs often suffer from the very common ‘small dog syndrome’, it is wise to pet them in homes that have older kids.

Due to their small size, they are excellent dogs to be kept in a small home or apartment building so long as they are given enough room for physical activity or exercise.

Havapoos are good with strangers, especially if they see that their owner approves of them. This behavior makes them less of a watchdog. They are well natured with other pets, especially if they have been socialized from a young age. These canines are very social and may pester a lazy cat or dog in their desire for play.

The Havapoos are sensitive pooches and grow close to their owner, which makes them a precious companion dog.

Care ~ Exercise

The Havapoo is a fairly energetic breed, though it is active indoors and will not require a great deal of outdoor exercise. However, these sweet canines spending time outdoors. Take them out for a short walk or jog at least once a day or a visit to a dog park will help them release their energy. Allow them to play off-leash if you are living in a house that has a safe enclosure.

Grooming & Maintenance

Grooming and maintaining a Havanese Poodle mix is easy. Like most other non-shedders, it is enough to brush your Havapoo twice to thrice a week to ensure cleaning the dead hairs and to prevent the coat from tangling and matting. Clip the long nails and wipe its eyes and ears to avoid infection. Bath it occasionally in a <g class="gr_ gr_155 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="155" data-gr-id="155">monthe</g> or two only with dog shampoo.

Health Problems

This is a relatively healthy breed with no significant health problems being reported. They have a life-span of 10-12 years. But they are not immune to genetic issues because even crossbreeds are often vulnerable to health issues that had earlier affected their parent breeds.

Although, there are frequent issues like

Joint dysplasia

Ear Infections

Dental Problems

Allergies

which the owner should keep an eye for. Try to get a health history of both its parents from your breeder or rescue. Lastly, it is advised to get the dog vaccinated and arrange for an annual vet checkup.

Training

The Havapoo is intelligent and easily trainable and would go to any extent to please its master. The best way to make your training success is <g class="gr_ gr_157 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="157" data-gr-id="157">a positive</g> reinforcement.

Begin your training when you bring home your puppies from the breeders or rescues, and they are still quite young. They need a calm owner who would be able to instill authority and encourage them in proper times and be a leader of its pack.

Teaching them Socialization training and obedience skills is particularly important from an early age for the puppies to combat this issue of sensitivity around children and other pet animals.

Potty training, house training, etiquette, and crate training are also easy for them to learn, provided you hold your patience and never be rude to them considering their sensitive nature.

Feeding/Diet

Havanese full grown pets are highly energetic dogs require high-quality food to give them adequate nutrition. To keep the Havapoo’s teeth strong a dry kibble diet is recommended.

Make sure the commercial diet is advised for this breed. The amount of food can change on the basis of the dog’s size, age, and metabolism.

The Toy Goldendoodle is gifted by the breeding of three breeds, toy golden doodle is a crossbreed amongst golden retriever, poodle and cocker spaniel and thus golden doodle brings the best of three worlds. This breed is also known as the Petite Goldendoodle.

Golden Retriever x The Poodle x Cocker Spaniel

Origin

The Petite Goldendoodle is a designer dog that likely dates back to the early 2000s. The interbreeding is arranged as such that the breed has a cute small height. This is achieved by downsizing an adult female Golden Retriever breed by crossing the breed with Cocker Spaniel.

This results in the offspring possessing an appealing small height. This breed further is bred with Miniature Poodles. And the offspring thus born is a Toy Goldendoodle. Thus, this resultant new breed is a ¼ Goldendoodle, a ¼ Cocker Spaniel, and a ½ Poodle.

The Appearance of Toy Goldendoodles

The Toy Goldendoodle is a very small-size dog with a teddy bear look, having round black eyes, a dark muzzle, with their ears hanging close to their shoulders.

The breed has shaggy hair to add to the cuddly look and in addition, golden doodles show less or no shedding. The shaggy hair adds to the appealing quotient of golden doodles look. The protruding muzzle adds cuddliness of the look.

These perky peppy pooches could have any of those colors that suit a nude handbag or stockings. Golden doodles have brown, golden, apricot, white or cream colors, live up to 10-15 years of age and weigh 10-18 pounds and grow up to 55-66 cm.

Both puppies and adult Toy Goldendoodles are generally hypoallergenic and thus present you with hassle-free parenting. Whether the reason is hassle-free parenting, small height or the shiny round black eyes, golden doodles look appealing to the core.

In addition, these snugly buddies have
loose ears that droop, and thus add to the ensemble panoply of cuteness.

Temperament & Behavior

Petite Goldendoodles are the perfect example of how big personas come in small packages! They can be ideal for families with children, housewives seeking endearment from pets, working professionals seeking love and affection after work. Because of their smaller size, they make excellent apartment dogs.

One of the reasons that golden doodles are preferred over other pets is that these are obedient and stay loyal to their families.

Petite Goldendoodles are a bright, friendly dog who gets along well with people, kids, and other pets. They are usually quiet though will bark to alert their families if they see a stranger. This makes them a good watchdog.

Toy Goldendoodles indeed exude quite a confetti of behaviors. They do exhibit problems arising from an intelligent brain and consciousness. When left alone golden doodles exhibit annoyance before their families.

If left alone for prolong time these small but conscious pooches could show emotional imbalance and exhibit barking to separate themselves from the family, to act angered. The family indeed needs to stay put through its pooch’s tantrums in such cases.

Exercise

These little dogs are fairly active and require near about an hour and a half period of exercise every day to keep him physically fit and mentally stimulated.

Because of his smaller size, walks are best to be short and frequent and a visit to the dog park where he can interact and play actively with other dogs would be a great addition to his exercise ritual.

The doodle might need more time of exercise if it comes from a work-line golden retriever parent.

Grooming

Petite Goldendoodle has a thick, dense coat that is soft and curly like a Poodle. The breed is considered as a <g class="gr_ gr_157 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" id="157" data-gr-id="157">non</g>– or low-shedding dog. Their wavy coat needs your attention at least once or twice a week. Brush them with a soft-bristled brush to ensure hygiene and untangled hair.

Bathing can be done as needed and because of his floppy ears, a weekly inspection and cleaning are needed to prevent infection.

Health Problems

No breed specific health issues have been noticed in the Petite Goldendoodles. Some of the conditions and illnesses they may be prone to include eye conditions such as progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts; issues such as aortic stenosis;

In order that your petite golden doodle stays away from diseases, ask the breeder about the dog’s pedigree and check if the parents had any such diseases.

Training

Petite Goldendoodles are bright and obedient doggies, who listen to your commands. Their intelligence, obedience, and love for learning new things make them easily trainable.

oth obedience and socialization training should take place when he is a puppy in order to bring out the best of this breed.

In order to train a golden doodle, one will have to slowly introduce a pup to a new environment and use positive reinforcement using toys and treats to incorporate both routine and discipline in a toy golden doodle. Always be comforting in your demeanor and see the puppy learning gradually but impressively.

Above all, these cute receptacles of happiness live well and transform any atmosphere or place into a repository of merriment.

Diet/Feeding

The Toy Goldendoodle is a small- to medium-sized dog and will need a high quality diet that is suited to his size, age, and activity level.

Be sure his food is specifically geared to his age and activity level and avoid fillers such as carbs and grains that will make him want to eat more in order to feel full.

Poodles can be prone to digestive issues so avoid <g class="gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="4" data-gr-id="4">high fat</g> meals.

Puppies

Toy Goldendoodle Puppies are adorable but can grow up to have poor pooch manners if not trained properly and socialized at an early age.

Interesting Facts

All the Petite Goldendoodles belonging to the first generation (F1) have been conceived using artificial insemination.

Of late, other than Cocker Spaniels, other types of spaniels are also being used by many breeders for developing the Petites. Hence, it is wise for the owner to ask the breeder about the pup’s exact lineage.

History/Origin

The Papi-Poo is a designer crossbreed from the United States.
Appearance

This affectionate dog is a small sized toy dog who has a small well proportionate body with short legs. Despite its small size, the Papipoos are quite energetic and agile and perform well in sports like agility, hunting tests, and obedience if trained properly.

They have a round head with amber or brown colored bright eyes, and deep black nose to add charm to its fabulous personality.

They have short-medium wavy hair and tail with often a combination of 2 or more colors. They shed minimally and are hypoallergenic dogs.

Temperament and Behavior Traits

The Poodle-Papilon mix has a loving personality which you are immediately going to fall for. They are smart, devote, little mischievous but gentle canines, who make great family pets.

The Papi-poo loves to be around kids and will get along with other household pets and dogs. It is always eager to please its family and is willing to be held or cuddled by them and are great companion dogs.

It can be a bit wary and will alert you to strangers coming onto the property by barking loudly, due to its protective nature. It is one of the most popular Poodle mixes which has an affectionate temperament.

Care ~ Exercise

These little dogs are perfectly suited to life indoors and apartment lifestyle. They love running around the house and playing with toys and hopping around the furniture.

They prefer being involved in pet puzzles, games, balls, and plush toys are good options to keep your pet busy when indoors.

However, 15-20 minutes walk around the neighborhood or some free time to run or some playtime at the pet park is always welcomed and will keep the toy pooch engaged.

Grooming

The Papipoos are low shedder but are high-maintenance dogs requiring regular grooming. Their medium wavy hair needs to brush 3-4 days a week to keep them tidy and untangled. This helps to distribute their natural skin oils, keeping their skin and coat healthy.

Bathing is required for the dogs when they get dirty, or wiping them gently with a wet cloth to put of the dirt will suffice.

Other maintenance issues are their teeth; they will need these brushed at least twice a week to maintain oral health. A periodical ear and eye check, plus a gentle nail clip will keep your Papi-poo clean and tidy.

Health Problems

The Papi-Poo has an average lifespan of 10 to 14 years.

A primary advantage to crossbred dogs is that they usually pick up the healthier genes of its parent lineage. However, the Papipoo could possibly be susceptible to the health problems that commonly affect its parent breeds, the Papillon and Poodle.

Some disorders that you should keep an eye out for,

Patellar Luxation

Hip <g class="gr_ gr_31 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="31" data-gr-id="31">Dysplasia</g>

Bone Disorders.

A Papi-Poo may also develop hypothyroidism or eye conditions like progressive retinal atrophy.

Training

The Papi-Poo is a clever and smart breed and training them is not a difficult task. They love learning tricks, and pleasing their owners they enjoy a bit of training as long as it is positive and rewarding.

Since the pooch loves to play around and hop on kitchen furniture, teaching them basic commands will help them to obey instructions given.

Early socialization and interaction with people and other pets at the park will help them in building their social skills.

Take them out after meals, after grooming sessions, before bedtime, and in the morning.

Crate training is also recommended since it will help them accept confinement.

Feeding/Diet

It has high energy requirements, and so needs a nutrient-rich diet. It will enjoy a vegetarian diet containing some protein sources like baked beans, cottage cheese, lentils, and cooked eggs.

You add some healthy grain options like bread, brown rice, and wholegrain cereals to their daily diet. If you insist on providing commercial dry food, then the amount should be 1/2-1 cup per day.

Puppies

These tiny dogs are irresistibly adorable puppies. They seem like walking soft-toys. Handle these bundles of joy <g class="gr_ gr_187 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="187" data-gr-id="187">carefully,</g> and make sure you supervise your kids if they are going to be socializing and playing with the puppies as well.

Papi-Poo puppies can easily injure themselves if they jump off of the <g class="gr_ gr_15 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="15" data-gr-id="15">furniture</g>, such as your bed or the sofa, so you can purchase pet steps to help them get up and down from furniture, or you can teach them to wait for you to pick them up.

Start training your Papi-Poo starting in puppyhood to teach him to follow commands. Expose him to different people and pets so he can grow up to be a confident and friendly adult.<ins>
</ins>

Temperament and Behavior

This small canine is loving and affectionate in nature. They love cuddling and are happy to be around other pets and children with their gentle nature.

Though the Dorkie is quite energetic, it is very laid back and loves to nap for hours especially under the bed covers!

These dogs have a very fun-loving and outgoing personality. They love meeting other pets, and their favorite place to be is at the dog park.

They are quite vocal, and have a good barking capability (which is shrilly at times) and alert the owner unfamiliar people/sounds.

They love to be around people and seek the attention of the family members. It is advised not to leave them alone for a long duration.

Care ~ Exercise

Like its parent breeds, the Dorkie requires only moderate exercise. They are playful and usually burn a lot of energy moving around. A few walking sessions and playtime for suffice your pooch and keep them healthy.

Grooming

The Dachshund-Yorkie Mix doesn’t shed too much and is low maintenance dog.

The Dorkie coat requires low to minimum maintenance and brushing just two times a week will be sufficient.

It is important with all breeds that you clean their ears and teeth regularly and have their nails trimmed and healthy.

Health Issues

Both the Yorkie and Dachshund breeds tend to live between 12 to 15 years.

The lifespan of a Dorkie is around 12- 13 years.

It is often believed that the crossbreeds are immune to health issues, but this is not always the case and certainly not guaranteed.

Hip dysplasia

Patella luxation

Eye diseases

are also common, and they are also prone to weight gain issues.

Westie Dog Breed is a cross breed between the West Highland White Terrier and Poodle.

This canine falls under the mini hybrid group that was formed by two different pure breeds.

This furry friend is really adorable as a family pet and well known for its calm temperament and low fur shedding issues.

The joyful nature of this pooch makes a good bond with the family.

History & Origin

In Scotland, West Highland White Terriers were used for hunting small species and vermin. Initially, the color of the Terriers was not only white, instead, but several subspecies of Terrier breeds also existed.

But once a colonel of Scotland got confused with a Terrier Breed and thought it to be a fox. He shot the animal and after this only records of white Terrier Breeding are present.

The Poodle has historical evidence which claims their presence in Egypt in the prehistoric era.

During the late ’60s, the hybrid Poodle pups were started to develop which was referred as Cockapoo

The beginning of the ’70s witnessed the creation of this new poodle hybrid that gained its popularity as Westipoo Dog Breed.

Initially, both West Highland Terrier and poodle were used for the purpose.

Years of breeding led the breed adapts structural resemblance to Poodle Breed and their temperament matches that of Terrier.

The Appearance

Westiepoo Dogs falls under toy breed. They are bit shorter than Poodles in size. A pair button like eyes with a tiny triangular shape nose enhance the cuteness of this pooch.

The height of a grown-up dog varies from 11 to 17inches. The weight of the adult Westipoo Dog ranges from 20lbs to 30lbs.

Generally the features depend on the dominant parent gene. Westiepoo Dogs usually have white color pattern.

But the color may vary in different shades of whites like light grey and fawn.

The coat texture has a wavy pattern with moderate depth and medium length. Short legs well complement the stout body pattern.

Temperament and Personality

This breed has a calm and quiet temperament. They seem to be very attached to their owners and are ideal for apartment life.

If this breed is left alone for quite some time, they tend to develop unnecessary barking habits.

The curios nature keeps the breed busy all the time. They have a loyal and affectionate nature and are good with kids and other animals(pets).

They are usually not very aggressive towards stranger but that does not mean any trespasser can easily move in without alarming the dog. So it can also help to guard the place

Care – Exercise

The breed does not require vigorous running. Regular walk for 20minutes is more than enough for the canine. They make great jogging companions and are enjoy some off-leash playtime as well.

Their snoopy nature keeps the animal busy most of the time. So, the playful attitude keeps the dog active round the clock.

Grooming

Moderately thick, curly coat of hair requires regular brushing and combing with a pin brush or stiff-bristle for keeping the dead hairs away. Frequently clipping their coat will keep them clean and tidy.

During the dry season, some hair gets shredded which seems very nominal when compared with similar toy breeds.

Shampoos and Conditioner that are devoid of strong chemicals and specially designed for dogs must be used for the bathing purpose.

The fur must be dried with blowers and the nails should be trimmed, when required.

Health Problems

Westipoo doggies are generally a healthy breed, with a lifespan of 12 to 15 years. Extreme temperature conditions cannot be tolerated by this breed.

The common health issues suffered by this breed include

Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca

Patellar luxation

Cataract, and copper toxicosis.

In some of the canines issues like Craniomandibular Osteopathy and globoid cell leukodystrophy has been recorded.

Some genetic disorders of the parental breed may recur in the dog. The mid layer hair coat makes the breed less hypoallergenic.

Training

This mixed breed has been showing natural intelligence since its origin. Simple leash training seems more than enough for the breed. Rough training may make your dog aggressive and natural barker.

It is advised to stay calm and clear while making the dog understand a particular order. Be patient with them and train them consistently. They love to be rewarded and accept treats.

Westiepoo Puppies

A female Westiepoo dog gives birth to around 4 to 5 puppies. These puppies have similar resemblances to cotton balls and are extremely adorable.

Diet/Feeding

An adult Westiepoo requires around 220gm of protein regular. They can be given carbohydrate free dry food that contains the right amount of protein required for the proper growth and health development.

2-3 meals a day with clean drinking water should be given to the dog.

You can consult your vet and take a balanced dog’s diet to keep him free of health problems.

Lab Pei is a medium to large breed dog that’s a cross of the Labrador Retriever and the Chinese Shar-Pei. He is an independent and loyal companion.

History/Origin

It is believed that the hybrid may have originated around the 2000s, likely in North America. Although Lab Pei is a relatively new breed of designer dog, his lineage dates back centuries.

As a hybrid, the Lab Pei does not qualify to be a member of the elite American Kennel Club’s (AKC). His parents, however, have both achieved AKC status; the Labrador retriever was admitted to the club’s “sporting” group back in 1917 and the Shar-Pei became a member of the “non-sporting” group as recently as 1992.

Appearance

A Chinese Shar-Pei Lab mix is a medium-sized dog with a strongly built structure. Their face resembles very much like their lab parent and they weigh between 55-70 pounds and standing 18-25 inches in height.

Lab Pei has a short coat that may be dense and water resistant, a trait they inherit from their Labrador lineage.

These hybrids are not as wrinkled like their parent breed the Shar-Pei, but they will tend to have loose facial skin around their forehead.

The Lab-Pei have small almond-shaped eyes and their ears are set high on the head and are semi-flopped down, with a pointed tip.

They have a wide and broad head, while their muzzle tends to be medium in length, their noses are black to dark brown and their tails are set high and are semi-curved.

Temperament and Behavior

These dogs generally have an even, protective, and loving nature which they inherit from their parents.

It has a very loyal and protective nature, making it a terrific watch and guard dog.

The Shar-Pei and Labs have very different temperaments. While the Lab is friendly and outgoing pooch, the Shar-Pei can be more reserved, thus the resultant Lab-Pei can be difficult to predict at times.

Their Labrador Retriever and Chinese Shar-Pei lineage make an intelligent and affectionate dog that is highly trainable and keen to please its humans.

Exercise

Adequate exercise and physical activities are recommended for this average large sized Lab Pei breed. Since both the parent breed the Labrador retriever and the Shar-Pei are on the heavier side, it’s important that the Shar-Pei Lab Mix has a regular exercise routine in order to help him stay fit and healthy.

He has a high instinct to play and run around so a fenced yard or off-leash spacious zone where he can run and interact with other dogs is ideal.

An ideal balance between their physical and mental health should be maintained, and prevent them from being flippant, bored and destructive.

Grooming

The Lab Pei is an average to low maintenance canine breed as they don’t require extensive grooming.

They have a short coat, which makes brushing twice a week adequate to remove the loose fur and debris and shall maintain the natural glow.

This dog isn’t a big fan of water at all, so bathing is a rare thing. However, when untidy or you may bathe him maybe once 6-8 months for proper hygiene.

If your pet has some wrinkles and folds on their skin, it is essential that these folds be cleaned on a regular basis and wiped properly in order to prevent bacteria and yeast buildup.

Ears should be cleaned and checked on a regular basis for signs of infection and nails trimming and teeth brushing as done to other similar pet dogs.

Health Problems

Hybrid dogs won’t necessarily experience the same health issues as his parents. Many genetic disorders bypass the hybrid entirely. However, both general and genetic issues can’t be ignored.

Lab Pei Dogs may be prone to Dysplasia, luxation, cherry eye, ear infections, stenotic nares, tight lips, malocclusion, hypothyroidism, demodectic mange, oleosa, hot spots, skin odor, etc. can’t also be ruled out.

This breed may suffer from entropion (wrinkles causing eyelids to fold in) from the Shar Pei side.

Training

Give them socialization and housebreaking training from the time you bring them home from the breeders.

Train the puppies consistently and with firm hands. Praise your dog or give them treats whenever it finds success or displays obedience.

Feeding/Diet

Your dog is quite an active and energetic one, who requires a healthy diet that would provide it with an optimal nutrition.

The Lab Pei should eat 2 to 4 cups( depending on the size) of good quality dry food like kibbles every day.

Meals should be small but frequent instead of one large meal once a day to prevent bloating.

The Lab Pei dogs have a tendency to overeat and hence become obese. This gives rise to a high risk of developing hip dysplasia and joint problems is a recipe for disaster.

Thus they should be fed with a controlled diet with the right amount of calories and nutrition to prevent them from being over-weight.

Shar Pei Lab Mix Puppies

Your Lab Pei puppy will need to be put on a diet specific for large breed dog puppies to help maintain a slower growth rate.

Feed him over several meal periods and ensure he has plenty of toys to keep him mentally stimulated and out of trouble.

Typically 1 cup per 6 pounds of body weight should be sufficient for growth of 2-3 pounds per week. Make sure to feed them in moderation so that they don’t overeat.

Too much exercise may tire him out but can also result in joint injuries that may plague him the rest of his life.
